7mm-08 reloading for a Encore pistol
« on: January 02, 2003, 06:13:07 AM »
I have just ordered a Encore 7mm-08 w/ a 15" barrel I plan on deer hunting with it.  I was wondering what other owners have found to be a good accurate load for it.  What type of powder and how many grains?  Also what type of bullet and how many grains?

Also does Contender reloading manual have loads for the Encore's larger calibers if any one has this manual? Or knows of one for it?

Thanks

got a dandy load for my purpose. killed a small deer a good piece off with it too. it's a light load, comfortable to shoot, and accurate. 5 shots under 1 1/2"@ 100, so far. 120gr nosler bt with 40.0gr H4895 and rem. large rifle primer. i was recommended h4895, and it works so far for me. i'll have to tinker a little later to try different charge weights, but this was the first i tried and bingo!
i think the sierra handgun manual has data for the 7-08. i'm 39 goin on 89 and can't remember unless i've got it in front of me. hehe

You can find 7-08 pistol loads in Hodgens and the Nosler manual for the Encore...

My favorite Load I used for my 7-08 was 40 grains of H-4895 with a 140 grain Nosler Balistic Tip.  MV was 2540 f.p.s. out of a 14 inch tube.

I have a 7mm08 in a 15" pistol. I am not like most people I use lighter bullets so they expand or EXPLODE quicker. I use the speer 115 gr. hp with 43.5 grs. of IMR 4064. This load with a 2 power scope will produce groups with 2 touching and the other within moa. Good luck and happy shooting.....

MonteSS, Believe it or not, I'm the guy who sent you here from atv connection but under a different screen name.  Welcome aboard!  Glad you found your way.  These guys will give you more good advice than you ever expected.

I'm a Contender owner but don't yet have an Encore.  Hope the fine folks here do you right as I know they will.

Don't overlook calling Sierra or Nosler for free info... They have 800 #s and have been very helpful and right "on target" so to speak with suggestions.

Sierra Rep's seem to really know what works with their bullets.

I like IMR 4895 in my .260 Rem. with 15" barrel and 120 Sierras or 120 Nosler BT.

Good Luck.
