Former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle fatally shot at Texas shooting range
« on: February 03, 2013, 02:22:32 AM »
Chris Kyle, a former U.S. Navy SEAL credited with the largest number of confirmed kills, was one of two people fatally shot at a North Texas shooting range Saturday, Texas Highway Patrol confirmed to Fox News.
Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant told the Star-Telegram that Kyle, 38, was shot by a suspected gunman, identified as 25-year-old Eddie Ray Routh, around 3:30 p.m.
Routh allegedly opened fire on the two men before fleeing in a pickup truck belonging to one of the victims, according to the report.
Routh was apprehended and taken into custody in Lancaster, southeast of Dallas, where he was arraigned on two counts of capital murder.
35-year-old Chad Littlefield was also killed in the shooting.
Kyle set the record for confirmed sniper kills at 150 and received multiple valor awards, including five Bronze Stars with Valor and two Silver Stars, according to US military records.
Kyle wrote the best-selling book, "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History," detailing his 150-plus kills of insurgents from 1999 to 2009.

I believe you will find that this "punk" was also a "vet" with post war emotional problems, that Kyle was there to help.  Kyle made a fatal mistake in taking an emotionally distraught vet to a gun range.
Kyle visited lots of other vets in an effort to help them, and I beleive this was the reason they (Routh) were even together. Routhe was a former Marine with PTSD, had earlier been arrested for DWI, and open container in the vehicle, and the "day at the range" was to help him deal with his PTSD. Very bad idea.

What a shame. Sad ending to a hero's life.

First question that popped into my mind when I heard was it just a guy with PTSD or a Jihadist hit?
He certainly had to be on their list.  Guess we'll find out eventually.  At least it happened in Texas so there won't be any attempt at coverup at the local level.

The POS that did the shooting was a veteran with a history of mental issues, and was in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes what a shame. Chris did four tours in Iraq, and his wife was worried sick about him every moment he was there. Then he comes home and gets shot by some POS. My son said that he heard that the shooter shot both of them in the back.
I have heard the book American Sniper on an audio book, and its a great book. Its a story about Chris's life and his tours in Iraq as a sniper. He was a true American hero. They should have thrown a rope over the nearest tree and hung the POS.

"Treating PTSD at a firing range doesnt make sense." I think "windbag" Ron Paul hit the nail on the head.

Sniper's and war in general are a little different then back in the Winter War. They aren't just shooting every guy they see, nor are they holed up for months at a time. Simo got all his kills in 100 days. When w were kids me and a buddy once speared 243 carp in less than 2 days. Doesn't make us Zulu Warrior's.

Paul in typical fashion used a tragedy to push his nonsensical views by dancing on the grave of a military hero.

I expected it from the liberals, but as a vet, Paul should have a little more tact.

Fish don't shoot back (bad analogy).  It was ignorant to take a mentally unstable man you had just met to a shooting range.  It is a tragic loss for the Country, and the family.

Just a senseless tragedy all the way round. Everybody suffers. Families, friends, community, and Country.

My heart goes out to all.

Kyle did as he was ordered, that's the way the military works. As a sniper you don't have the option of choosing where to fight or who your targets are. No matter where he was, he was defending our country and doing what was asked of him.

This tragedy and trying to help a fellow veteran shouldn't be used as pulpit.

Adding to my previous comment concerning Ron Paul's comments concerning living by the sword. While I think I get his real intent, not the "perceived" by some here, he made it out of context to this actual event. On the other hand, I don't think anyone here would take a known violent mental case shooting. In regard to that issue Paul was pretty accurate.

Did Ron Paul "stick his foot in his mouth"..at least temporarily?

To be fair, Ron Paul is backing water now...spinning away from that remark..

This is exactly right.  Stop using the death of a man to push your political agenda.  This makes you no better than Obama or anyone using Sandy Hook to push gun control.  It's also why Ron Paul's statements were received to poorly and created outrage.  Because not long ago Paul blasted Obama for doing the very thing he just did on Twitter.

Stop being hypocrites and either leave a valid remark that is in line with the topic or keep your fingers still.  Gunning each other down and trolling have no place in this discussion.

Agreed..the man deserves respect..and great credit for helping veterans who need help, when he could be concentrating on "making the big buck"..

Just rememeber it was Buck that brought RP into his thread...that means in a 'forum' we get to make 'valid' comments...I haven't seen any hypocrisy in this thread at all.
