One Big Snake
« on: February 03, 2013, 04:55:42 PM »
I just heard about this on our local news. Seems a guy in Dallas County, Arkansas killed a 44lb Rattlesnake with 22 rattles. The Conservation Department said it looks like the real deal. Didn't say but in this general area I'm guessing a Timber Rattler though it could be a Diamondback. I see a nice hatband, belt and a couple pair of boots there.  ;) I know I wouldn't be handling it with the head still attatched though!

Very dangerous animal, most snake removal people wouldn't attempt to take one this big alive.

That snake is huge. I wonder if it was photoshoped?? I can't see the picture good enough to tell.

Since the picture couldn't be enlarged here, I turned on the little womans Ipad and enlarged it.
apparently it's a normal snake draped over a broken limb and the guy is holding his hands together so it looks like he's holding it.
photoshopped.....

I grew up  thinking   only  good  snake  was  a  dead  snake. Today  I  would  have  just  walked  away  and  let  the  ole  boy  live  out  his  life. Let  em  live  .

The SO killed one near here (7 miles) that went 7'-3" don't know what it weighed.  Fang spread was 3-31/2"

It's on a pole.

If you look closely where his wrists are there's no way he could be holding the snake in that position

I  thought  it  was  a  eastern  when  I  saw  it , But  the  pic  is  small and  I  might  believe  44 lbs.  if  it  were  a  python.

I looked up the Florida record and after trying to wade through the fake crap I settled on a 9 foot 1inch as being the biggest. Its weight, 97 lb. An article said Ross Allen caught one the same length and it weighted 79 lbs.
Where I worked we own 3000 acres and a few of us guys used to tromp it out, both swamp and palmetto. The biggest I have seen was a little over 6 feet. It was caught and kept around  a few days for viewing and several around that size. I was told one of the guys killed one and took it home that measured a little over 8 feet. I did not see it nor a picture or hide. So dont know.
I do believe they get that big.

Here is one that a guy down around Ocala Fla sent me.  Said that he caught it on a golf course at night.  I think that the snakes head is a little too close for comfort!

OMG! I bet posting this pic was intended to  keep Fornicators off the Greens after the Country club Dance, lol! My goodness, what a rattler! One that big would probably strike pretty high on the thigh or even torso/upper arm.  "Get the .410!" lol :D

"Get the .410" was my Dad's favorite saying about when it's time to shoot something, lol. He started it when my twin girls were small and if they saw a monster, etc on TV, he would say "Get the .410" and make them laugh. He was using a little H&R single shot I had bought my wife when we were dating. It shot (still does) #4s like a rifle! he used it for squirrels, etc. After he died we brought it home and I had it reblued, etc.

The problem with these two statements is that the snake in question is a Western diamond back. They don't exist in Florida.
