Pawn shops?
« on: February 04, 2013, 02:33:39 AM »
So if the gun laws they are wanting passed in Washington happen there will be back ground checks at gun shows. So when you walk into a pawn shop to buy one of the stolen guns on display there will they do a back ground check?
Yup!!! Your right I don't have any respect for pawn shops and feel they should be put out of bussiness, as an easy outlet for so much stolen stuff.

I haven't been to a pawn shop in years, nothing against them though. Just like a 'check into cash' store, don't go there if you don't like them, or what they do.

A pawn shop has to have an FFL & do a background check like any other gun shop. They get checked at times, if they are an outlet for stolen guns the gig won't last.

I was in the Pawn business, and first one of the LAWS that we have to follow is when we pawn, buy, or trade for ANYTHING we have to keep a record of it and it also goes to the law enforcement of your town, that is with-in 48 hrs.  If the item is stolen then the police put a hold on it and the party that brought it in is gone after by the police and he has some serious explaning to do to the law.  Then when you sell the firearm the purcheser MUST fill out a 4473 form just like if you were in your favorite GUNSHOP oh yes we are just like your favorite GUNSHOP we are a licensed federal firearms dealer, nut we mostly only sell used guns. and as far as not having any RESPECT for a pawn shop thats fine with us as we NEVER go into the parking lot and FORCE anyone to enter the business, all we are doing is offering a service that alot of people need, there isnt a bank out there that is going to loan you $100.00 to keep your lights from being turned off, or your internet from being turned off, or to get enough gas in your car for work, or to go out with the guys and party, or well I think you get the picture,  BTW dont spend your last $$ and you will never need the Pawn shop.  Jim

Pawn shops fill a purpose, but many low income customers have lost what little they owned when it became hard to redeem property than they planned for.  It has happened to me and I believe they should all be shut down.

Here the law hawks pawn shops every day, a list of incoming guns is generated and the numbers ran. No stolen gun hits the sale rack.I have gotten several good deals at pawn shops. It is a place to buy,not sell.

I view pawn shops the same as any other place of business - if they have what I want at a price I'm willing to pay then I buy it - if not, then I don't buy it.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but so far I haven't been held hostage in a pawn shop and forced to buy anything! ;D

A couple years ago my wife had a ring she wanted to sell.  She went to 2 "reputable" jewelry stores and got offers.  She then went to a pawn shop and their offer was higher than either of the jewelry stores - by about 10% for store 1 and almost 20% over store 2.  No saying that was typical, but you just never know.

Again I say we never FORCED anyone to bring there items into the shop, but if you do happen to take something into a pawn shop, remember it is YOUR responsibility to go back and redeem it, they are not going to hunt you down and BEG you to repay the money you got, It is usually the people who loose something to a pawn shop that want to talk bad about the experience, when it was their OWN fault they lost the item.  My advice never go in to barrow money you cant or wont pay back.  Jim

There are some good owners of pawn shops, but also some very bad ones.  In one case I ordered a gun through one of the bad ones.  After paying most of the cost for the pistol on lay away, I was a day late coming in and he confiscated everything I had paid.  I never went back and make a point of letting everyone I know to avoid him.

After I gave him $175 toward a $300 dollar gun and received nothing, I don't really care.  Pawn shops survive by taking advantage of those who already have very little.  In my case dealing with my wife's cancer treatments made us unexpectedly short on money.  He didn't care and had me escorted out when I complained.

If what you are saying is true and I believe it to be so I would have worked with you on the law-a-way, however you wont believe all the stories we have had to listen too because they didnt hold up their end of the deal,   I had a policy that  in the event of a deat in the family of someone passing away with something in on pawn we just returned the item to the family without them paying what ever was barrowed, sometimes you just cant make everyone satisfied.  Jim
