any west texas hunters out there?
« on: February 16, 2004, 04:15:05 PM »
I have been searching for someone that may know of a lease or have a lease available on an anual basis for hog hunting in my neck of the woods. We live in Lubbock and I currently am leasing on the UU ranch. They have killed one hog there in 6 months and it's a far cry from what I was told and what I paid for. I was told it was over run with them. Oh well. 4 feeders out and hunting every weekend and all my son and I have seen is antelope , antelope tracks, and one small hog about 800 yards out in some serious wind making the shot near impossible. I tried to stalk it but it was the wrong way for the wind and he smelled me coming before I got in range.
If anyone here needs a partner or can put me on to another good lease reasonably close I would sure apreciate it. Thanks.
I don't mind driving 6 hours or so for a GOOD hunt with a reasonable chance of success.

m14DAN,

I too am a fellow lubbock resident. I have never had the funds for a yearly/season lease (at least until recently), but i do know of a couple of day leases within 2 hours drive that have good hog populations if you are interested...

If you need another hunter on your season lease let me know...

Dave

Cool another lubbock hunter. Hey lets get together and go hunting at my lease this weekend. email me and we can set it up. I only know a couple other hunters around here and they each have season leases too but theirs are pretty far away. Mine is on the UU, just 45 mins south. It's pretty good but not near as many hogs as they said. I have only seen one so far there but tons of prairie dogs and antelope. Let's get in touch.

I wish I had your problem!  You know, only seeing antelope.  I have always wanted to hunt a Texas antelope.  Our lease is run over with hogs.  They become more of a pest than anything.  I am a teacher and spring break is coming up.  I will make a trip to the lease and see if there are some hogs for the taking.  When we have feeders going, it is hard to actully let the deer get any corn because of the hogs.  I can't imagine you not being able to find a farmer in your area with lots of hogs.  Ask around. if anyone has peanuts, milo, or sudan planted and there is some cover near there should be hogs.

The really bad thing is we can't even hunt the antelopes. Last weekend we saw over 200 of them in a herd and oh man did I want to bag a few dozen but no hunting season on them. They are by special permit only and the land owner won't give any out. I am definitly off this lease as soon as it runs out. I will trade some prairie dog shooting though with you if you take me to your place that's overrun with hogs. I am about to go out that way quite often working the gunshows. I just started up my shooting supply store and dallas is where all the action is.
