I have always reloaded for everything I shoot in Centerfire.  I just bought a .17 Hornet a couple of months ago.  I am not going to reload for it, those little cases are just too small for my old fingers to handle.  I think Hornady can do a far better job than I can.

I have one of the first made here. I dont use or shoot it that much. Its a very good shooter, but for me its a hunter. Its been out but hasnt spoken...yet. ;)

I have bought a few boxes of factory ammo as when I did it was the only thing avalible. I think I have 10-12 boxes or so... I was waiting for dies and havent bought them yet. I think I have two boxes of brass ready to load... Its gonna be a while till I ''need'' to reload it.

Ever seen those videos where they shoot prarie dogs, and they explode?  One .17 Hornet + one Red Squirrell at 15 ft shot in the nose = Red Mist.  That little sucker ain't going to be ripping up the insulation in my Diesel Truck any more.

I rechambered two 17 HMR's to 17H and loaded for them and shot them for two months... sold them at the range for a good price... that was after I decided that I VASTLY prefer out K-Hornets... with 35 and 40 V-Max. The loads I used for 17H were 9 grains of Lil Gin and 12.5 grains of H322... both loads were equal for velocity and accuracy out of our guns, pretty good accuracy, but not as good as the 40VM from the K-H's... I am glad I tried 17H... and I know that I don't miss them.

I'm still a ways out from getting my .17 Hornet back from the gunsmith but I figured I'd start looking around for a couple boxes of ammo to get me started for when she comes home.  Everyone seems to be out of .17 Hornet with no back order.  It seems Hornady either didn't make enough or this round is more popular than they expected.  Hopefully I'll be able to find a box or 2 in the coming months...

Just got notice from Mid South Shooters supply that they had new stock in and I bought 5 boxes.  I don't think I can improve the accuracy of mine with hand loads as it will already out shoot me.  It consistantly shoots under an inch at 100 yards with the 20 grain Hornady ammo.

Anyone try to have a 17HMR barrel fitted to a center fire reciever?  I would like to get one & ream it to hornet, but looking at the accessory barrel program looks like they won't do that & i don't have a rim fire reciever.  At the prices & lack of used on the market on barrels now makes the accessory program look a lot better.  Guess the 17hmr barrels will be even harder to get after the new winchester super mag gets more available.

H&R won't, you'll have to fit it yourself.  ;)

I bought a used 17hmr sportster several months ago.. its barrel locked up perfectly on my sb2 frame. I tested it on a spent piece of brass and its firing pin was dead on in the center. I ended up selling the hmr gun off since i had no real use for it or the hornet.

A couple guys yes. I did two and fudged up the second and had it reamed to 17 furball.
It is a easy job but a bit too much to attempt by hand.

I chose to send mine out to a gunsmith to have it done.  I lucked into a .17 HMR barrel, they can be hard to find if you don't buy the whole rifle...
