Interesting accent from the Judge. Pity she couldn't get about 10 lashes to improve her attitude.

Have been thinking about this all night so this is not an unthought opinion.
I did not see any disresct from the girl in the first move---it was  a tickled, girl expressing her joy----if the best you can get of this is bail--but thats another subject.
The judge sure showed signs of contempt and I think he should examine hissownself,
As far as the rest of the act she showed---I think it was quiet honest and an attitude as I would actually exhibit  towards that idiot.
Blessings

Judge seemed like a reasonable & tolerant fellow; she deserves it. That said... there's many a judge who should get told off, and who richly deserve a smack across the beak or a draw across the throat. But they're immune, and they get to be as patronizing as they wish. They populate 'family courts' across America.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

She may not learn "Respect" ( or manners either) but this is a great lesson in her learning "submission to Authority". As soon as she accepts this hard lesson, she will begin to mature. All of us know or have heard of folks who abuse their position of authority, I don't think that is the issue here. In life, there will always be someone who has "power of authority" over you, whether we like it or not. For example; if he had sentenced her to do something she enjoyed doing ( 10 days of hard partying!) she would be in Agreement. If it had been something she didn't agree with, but didn't mind ( 10days greeting people at Walmart) she would just be in Obedience. If it was something in this case (her first sentence) she did not like/agree with but kept her mouth shut and "submitted to it", then she would be in Submission ( that's why they have Bailiffs there in order to enforce submission.)  when she felt the need to rebel against that authority, it was forced upon her. In the next 30days, she will interact with other folks who had to "submit to authority", so its a hard lesson. Don't get me wrong, 30days seems a bit overboard to me too, however, its none to long if she learns to "pick her battles", and experience is 'always the best teacher, but the tuition is  high", lol.  :P   Unfortunately, not many folks ever learn this...I hope she chooses to..

HEH. Expressing her joy at getting busted?? Good grief,  She was higher than a kite and needed a lesson in manners, which she got.  A simple yes your honor, or no your honor would have been sufficient. . POWDERMAN.  ;) ;)

I have watched this carefully since it first aired two days ago.  First I think the girl was looking at the whole thing as a joke.  She was giggling, palying with her hair, and displayed an attitude like she really thought this was some kind of joke.  (Reminds me of Linsey Lohan when she first started having trouble).  When the judge set her bail she laughed it off, and turned to leave.  The Judge saw and did not like her attitude, and the way she was just blowing the situation off.  The Judge felt she was not respecting the court.

Judge called her back and doubled her bail.  At this point the claws came out and the self centered young woman got mad.  She told the Judge XXXX You, and flipped him off.  An appology and submission at the time might have diffused the situation and got her off with the judge cutting her bail back to the original setting, but she blew it.  As the Judge was questioning her she was showing irratition, and not accepting the courts authority.  So the Judge decided she needed to be shown the world did not revolve around her.  30 days.

I believe this was correct and just.  I back the Judge 100%.  I hope she has to do the whole 30 days.

One of my brothers got into trouble when he was a teen.  Beat me severly, beat up a city cop that tried to arrest him, and it took two State Troopers to take him down.  He went to the county court house.  The judge told my Mom, she was not capable of handling this young man, and they were keeping him till my Father returned from California.  The Jailer did not want to put him in with the hardened men, so she put him in the drunk tank.  They held him three days till Dad returned and went to get him out.  During those three days he was puked on, peed on, and cussed at.  He was too big for them to physically abuse him, they were afraid of him.  When he got out he was one changed young man.  He has never been in trouble since.

Putting her in front of the Judge while high wasn't all that smart either by the public defender.

She had been held in jail over night, and if she had been high she would not have been allowed a bail hearing.  The court system is required to have a bail hearing within a specified time from being arrested.  Public Defender does not have anything to do with it at this point.

I still stand by the thought that she acted like a teen-aged girl who did not "get it" but I don't see any contempt---no remorse, but not contempt.

I agree Bill, but unfortunately the Judge can't do that.  Maybe if her parents had done it she would not have been there.

Oh, forgot parents can't do that either.  When she goes to school she can report it and the parents go to jail.

Her attitude should not be a surprise to anyone. Besides her peers, look at the fine examples that come from the young women in Hollywood that get a little slap on the wrist time after time for their bad behavior instead of sitting in a cell for sufficient time to have some meaning.

Attitude is standard: No one can touch me!.  Attitude is standard: I'm cool and you can't affect me. Attitude standard: I'm better than you.

Sometimes an attitude adjustment is in order to push those in error back on the right path.
If the first judge my niece encountered was not a bleeding heart she might not have been 15 and pregnant, stolen 3 cars, married and divorced twice before 22 and hooking up with every clown that offers her drugs. Just my opinion though.

Unfortunately she got a suspended sentence, a reduction to 20 days would have been more appropriate IMO.

Now the second time around---a belt to the behind might have served a better educator. You have to wonder if she was ever taught respect in the home or school ? Another example of poor education . Yep spare the rod and spoil the child !

She got what she deserved. My only concern for the judge is that he was smiling and expected the girl to be serious. If she got a suspended sentence she did not learn nothing. To many people don't hold kids to account so as not to offend them and lose their friendship. I didnt raise friends I raised responsible adults who became my friend when they got their heads out of their behinds just as I had to  at some point.

Your last sentence is in my opinion the most profound (and blunt) statement in this thread. Too many parents don't understand this. I see it in the middle school at which I teach every year. In many households, it is the children who tell the parents what to do. As I have to be out in the hall monitoring students, I from time to time hear kids talking to one of their parents on cell phones before and after school in the most rude and disrespectful manner. More than once I have, once the conversation is over, admonished a student for talking to their parents disrespectfully. Probably hasn't done any good.

I agree, her apology should count for something, but she should have served at least a portion of her jail sentence. She's probably been told her whole life she's a princess and has been shielded from the school of "hard knocks." Hopefully, she won't need another lesson...but I doubt it.
