I.D. Tin
« on: February 07, 2013, 02:19:18 AM »
Yesterday I made a stop at the metal salvage yard to check inventory of wheel weights. I asked about tin and was shown a barrel with what I was told was tin. That is my question. How do you identify tin? There were several large castings that I was told were babbit, but is there differant alloys of babbit? There were also chopped lengths of triangular shaped that contains a wire rod. Looks like some form of gasket? I bought some of this as well as a bag of 71/2 magnum shot. Seems like very high temp needed to melt the lengths of tin and it seemed grainy. Any way to I.D. tin???????
