Mach2
« on: February 08, 2013, 03:00:05 AM »
Never shot it. Does it have any use other then paper punching and what is the useful range?
I am considering one posted for sale but not real excited about about adding another caliber to the inventory unless it is useful.

Thanks.

I don't own one, but it must come close to perfect for squirrels.

I owned one in a CZ452.  It was a shooter...  If you find one I have 248 rounds on GunBroker for sale.

The interest in HM2s seems to be waning and I suppose there may be a time when ammo is either non-existant, or very costly.  For that reason, I would get it in a rifle I would be capable of rechambering to .17 HMR...just in case...

How loud are the .17 HM2s compared to the .17HMRs?

Not as loud, comparable to a 22 Stinger since that's what case they use.  ;)

That is a magic little 17 grain pill for squirrels.  My favorite squirrel round yet!

I have a CZ in mkII and it's the best round I've used for squirrels. If I can see them they are done, head shots too.

Squirrels are a nothing but a pest to me. I don't have many around home and up north I just watch them.

I guess I would not have any use for the Mach 2. I have enough calibers already.

I have a 10-22 I converted a few years back, when you could get the barrel and parts  to do that. Still have it and still shoot it at anything smaller than a small dog. Head shots are its lively hood. At a hundred yards its automatic on instant kills. 3/4 inch groups are regular even when switching ammo brands. Mine likes hornady stuff but it will shoot anything I feed it.

Ok, it is now a year later. I seem to be interested again. I also do not see any listing (retail) for guns or ammo.
What is the current opinion on the Mach 2?

Mine hasn't changed... I love it and feel its going to be obsolete.

I have been buying ammo everytime I see it for 3-4 years. I have not seen any now for over a year. BUT I hear some is cropping up on gun broker and the like...

My bet is it suffers the same fate as the 32 rimfire.

Just purchased one off the classified ads myself. I was able to get it out and play with it this weekend. WOW! its holding about 3/8th inch groups at 50 yards, without bench resting it, from more than our propane tank (only thing not completely covered in snow). I have only been able to try the one type of ammo but would expect it do even do better from bench when Im not shaking from hypothermia....

Most unbelievable part was SAT. morning a guy had called to tell me that he found 4 boxes of ammo at 10.00 a piece but that had to pick them up in 30 mins as him and his wife  were passing through the town closest to us. so here I am running out the door in sweats and house shoes to pick up ammo, 30 miles round trip but now I have a total of  500 rounds of mach 2 :o .....

this rifle will probably be my favorite, IF I can keep her feed ???  she is showing alot of promise in accuracy.... Im ready for squirrel season....

I've dropped ground hogs with mine and at 100 yards, I can pick the spot on their head that I want to hit. The same with squirrels! Head shots at 100 yards are quite common with good optics. I just picked up 4 boxes of CCI yesterday for a grand total of 30. I learned early on when my cousin could no longer shoot his Remington 5mm.

Ammo seems to be the biggest concern, although Sportsman's Guide has Hornady HM2 for $7.xx box of 50.

OOPS..just double checked and they are already sold out
12g shortie w/chokes,Tamer .410,12g "Buck" slug gun w/20g extra barrel, 12g smooth bore tracker I, 45/410 w/22vp matched set, 7mm-08, .308 20",

I expect they will return, but are not on a very high priority for the ammo makers.  Supply vs demand you know..

Its a minor change for ammo makers to produce the Mach2 with the 22lr production line. They will continue to make it.
Must be true since I read it online. LOL

I have always thought it was under advertised.  It shoot straight and packs a punch when it gets there.  My Sportster combo started life as a Mach 2.

Now waiting to see how the 17wsm handi's turn out to make the rimfire set complete.  If it works i guess I'll have to build a new rack. :D

I sacrificed my 17HMR to make a 17 Hornet, but the 17M2 will remain a 17M2 for as long as I live!!  LOVE mine!!
