Sharp Shooters Supply - Update
« on: February 08, 2013, 07:52:35 AM »
Does anyone know what is going on at Sharp Shooters Supply? I ordered a stock and barrel 6 months ago. I have not received either one. I have tried to call several times, but no one is answering the phone. I have emailed them and again, no reply. Are they still in business? They charged my credit card ($850+) 6 months ago for the full amount of the stock and barrel, but no merchandise. I thought maybe someone who lived over there knows something - Stimpy or catfish

I have purchased items from them in the past and generally like the service and have recommended them to others. I am beginning to have some serious doubts. When a business does not answer the phone or email, it feels like they are going under or there is some kind of serious health issue. I am to the point of canceling my order, paying the 25% stocking fee and move on.  Trouble is I can not get a response to even cancel my order. My fear is I have handed over several hundred dollars and will get nothing. So just beware. I am not even sure if you can place an order, if they do not answer the phone (the way I have always placed my orders) or email.

Can't say with any person information but I notice he hasn't updated anything on the website since sep of last year.   Have you asked over on the Savage User website.  I'd think someone there would be up to date.

I've since checked and so far as anyone knows the situation is one of two gunsmiths is no longer there and everything is proportionally slower......... :-\

Update - I tried to call again today. Up until today SSS has not answered my e-mails and no one would answer the phone. Today I got a message that said they were not going to answer the phone and you could not leave a message. It also said that if you want to contact them, to do so by e-mail. Makes me feel a little better, but wonder why they have not answered my e-mails. Maybe they need to update their web site, stating that e-mail is the only way to contact them.

He`s a long way from me and I have no idea what`s going on there. The last time I was up there he had 1 emploie and was very busy, but that`s been acouple of years ago. I do know that the work he did for me was first rate and that he used to do alot of work on M1A1`s for the guys that shoot at Camp Perry.

Another Update

When I got home today, I was thrilled to see a long thin box on my door step. I looked and sure enough, it was from Sharp Shooters Supply! I now have my barrel. I do not know how it will shoot, but I know it will fit my target action. Now, all I need is the stock. It has been 7 months (August 19, 2012) from the time money was deducted from my credit card to getting the barrel into my hands. I am going to try an e-mail again to see if I can get an update on the stock. I can not wait to get it together. I already have a Silver Weaver 36X Target scope, mounts and rings.

My final update on this subject

The stock that I ordered 10 months ago arrived today. It came with the options I ordered too. That was the good news, if taking 10 months is good. The bad news is it is the wrong color. I ordered Blue, Blue, Light Blue laminated stock. I got a Red, Black Laminated Stock. I would send it back, but i do not want to take another 10 months to get the correct one + I could not contact them anyway. They do not answer the phone and do not answer an e-mail.

They do very good work, but WOW, what a way to run a business. I have had several orders through them in the past, but I have placed my last order with them. Putting up with a wait of 10 months, is not a killer for me, but they would not even reply to an e-mail or answer the phone to keep me posted as to progress. NO communication of any kind, what so ever. and now when I finally get the stock, it is wrong and I can not communicate with them to make arrangements to send it back. Then I do not even know if I could get the correct stock and how long it would be before I would get it.

Red-Black is what it going to be, like it or not. What poor service for a stock that cost almost $400.00 with options and shipping.

There is NO WAY I would keep that stock. They have been getting worse and worse over the last couple of years. They screen the emails. They will answer right back if you tell them you want to order something. And most all parts are in stock until you pay for them, then all of a sudden 6 months later you get them. They will give any excuse they can. They did a complete rifle build for me and I will never have them do another. They messed up the bedding and I had to fix it myself, they said they would not fix it. If they did they would charge me to re bed it. The Savage rifles are supposed to have the rear of the action floating. It only floated about 1/4 of it. There was epoxy all over the top of the stock. They did not return the old trigger I asked them. The trigger was set at 6lbs when I told them I wanted it at 2lbs. I asked them about all of this and then they never emailed back again.

I was beginning to think that maybe it was just me. I was not seeing anyone saying they had any kind of experience like mine.

I feel your pain for sure. I am afraid that if I send it back, I will not get a replacement and they will not send back my money. I just don't know because they will not talk to me and they do not have any thing on their site to look up progress on an order. I am going to live with the red/black/black stock and chock it up one of those life's experiences. I just will not do business with them again and will let others know how I feel. I understand they are having issues with getting parts from their suppliers, but they could at least keep me informed on any progress. It was not like I was bombarding them with e-mails, I think I sent a total of 3 - 4 in ten months. They did not answer any of them. The last contact I had with them was at the 4 month mark. I called them and they said my stock was 10th in line and they did not have a barrel blank yet. I got the barrel 3 months after that and the stock 4 months after that. After that phone call, they would not answer the phone or an e-mail. When I ordered them I was told it would be 8-10 weeks for the stock and 10-12 weeks of the barrel. They also told me they would take half the money upfront and the other half when they shipped. They took it all right up front 8/19/12. It is not the wait that upsets me so much, it is the absolute lack of communication that really gets me going. Was it scr*w you, ha, ha I took your money and there is nothing you can do about it, we are having supplier issues bear with us - nothing. $850.00 gone and then nothing....

I purchased a couple of Savage rifles last Oct.. I looked to Savage shooters supply for a few things I thought I would like to do, as in gunsmithing and parts. I sent them an e-mail, a very detailed, e-mail describing what I would like have done and parts needed..  Their response to my two requests were simply "Yes and yes", no more, no less. Understanding and not having a problem with contacting them to see, when I can send my firearms to them for work, I then e-mailed them to see when I can get on the schedule. No response. I called them and like all of you, no response. One more e-mail and nothing.
I really don't expect an answer to an e-mail immediately, but that was October! NO they will not get any work from me, and, after reading this post, they wont get any money for a parts order either.
Thank you for the update LaOtto222
