First shorty....
« on: February 08, 2013, 10:54:31 AM »
Just finished my first shorty.
Specs: Barrel is 16-3/4
           Lenght is 30-1/2
           Weight is 6 Lbs.
I made it with 3 forends. I would like comments
from you guys on how it looks with the long, mediun,
or short forends and comments in general.
Good , bad or ugly. That's the way we learn.

A vote for the shortest one as well.  Just has a "balanced" look to it.

I like the long one. Gives it the blunderbuss look.

Like the shorter one.  It looks better  and less likely to miss place your hand or fingers in front of the muzzle.  I also like the crown job.  Did you use a 60 deg. inside chamfer?  Regards,  Piney Creek

The short one looks best, mainly because the long one looks like a pregnant guppy.  A slimmer forearm with a gracefully shaped schnobble could look much better than any of those.

I kinda like #2, but then my 24" 12ga. slugger with factory Mannlicher for a 22" looks similar up front.
To refine the lines on the 'Mannilicher' style take clues from (surprise) the Mannlicher Schoenauer or Ruger RSI and/or the No.1 International models.

recluse,

Good Work!

I like the short one on your carbine but I think I would like the long one on my 32" BC.  You make the forestocks yourself?

I would vote for middle length.  It would look great on my 16 1/2 inch max with suppressor attached, it would balance the look more.

In replies to Petemi , it is a .357 mag.
PineyCreek, I cut the crown in with a 25 degree
off the face of the barrel
Bikerbeans, I make all the forends my self
These particular ones were made from select
redwood. Not real durable but easy to shape.

Hi, nice work. The long fore end would be my favorite but my personal preference would be, make it more slender.

As they are now, I think I prefer the short one.

All three are nice and that is some good work that you did.
If I was going to buy one, I'd get the medium one.

Hey fish280, the scope is a Tru-Glo red dot.
The short forend won it's place on the shorty.
I'm going to try to get to the range this week to
see how it functions with the new crown I put on it.
I will post the accuracy results when I get them.
Thanks to all the guys who left comments.

I received a couple of 'PMs" about selling the forends
I didn't use on this shorty. I lost those messages so couldn't
respound to the requests personally (damn computers). The forends
found other guns to adorn. Sorry guys. Thanks again for all
the great comments. Be safe all, reclusej

late but what the hey...

I like the long one, but slim it down some.

it Really was hard to tell, as that scope has to go.

it really takes away from the lines and distracts from the forearms.

I'd like to see all three again, without the scope!
