Apparently Israeli Military Industries still offers the .357 Mag Timber Wolf Carbine. I have not seen one for twenty years, but the one I handled then was well made, well balanced, and quite compact. The older version had a grayish phosphate type finish and the wood was nothing to write home about. It was a take down model and was reasonably priced (about $169 if memory serves). I should have bought it. Here is a site with reference to the newer version of the rifle. I did see it mentioned in a publication in the last year or so, and if I come across the article I will post it.

Now you've done it Targshooter!  dadgumit!  I'm gonna have to get one!  I love the 357 and pump rifles.  I've known about the Timberwolf, but with them being long out of production and all, I've given up.

Where can they be found?? There wasn't a lot of info in the link....

Nothing new, just a note aobut something old. When Universal was making the M-1 carbine, they also put out a pump-action version chambered for 44 mag. I've nevere seen one, only in the catalogs from back then.

The Lightning replicas seem to have the failings that the original had, and are too long and heavy. If Chinese guns hadn't been banned, we might have had a Norinco repro of the Remington 14

I once had a Remington, chambered for .32-20, it was kinda worn out by the time I got it, then the firing pin broke.  It was a takedown styled like the Model 14 but with a different number, that I can't remember, 20 something? Since they quit makin' 'em, I have to surmise they couldn't sell 'em.

The Taurus Thunderbolt will also be chambered in .357 mag as well as .45 LC according to the catalog they sent me last week.  Finishes - Stainless Steel, Blue, or Color Case

I was at the range the other day and a fellow there had one of the Thunderbolts shooting it.  It was a 45 Colt with a 24" barrel.  He offered to let me shoot it so I couldn't be rude and pass it up.  The accuracy of the rifle was fairly decent at 50 yards, the trigger was terrible and the action was rough, I am sure both of these problems are fixable.  The thing that I didn't like about it is that it was heavy and not particularly well balanced.  It was a nice gun a fills the niche it was meant for (CAS) but as a handy woods rifle it doesn't cut it.  I wish someone would come out with an updated Remington model 14 or something similar in 357 magnum and whatever caliber else they wanted.  My real wish would be 41 magnum but I know that is not likely to happen.

Here's at least one good reason why not: you'll never hunt Canadian fauna with a rifle that short, they're illegal.

No problems hunting up north with a 16" barrrel as long as it's not semi-auto.
We can hunt with 16" lever action "trappers" and 12 1/2" or 14" pump shotguns as well.

I believe the Taurus Thunderbolt is now available with a shorter barrel maybe 20"

I bought it used through an online trading sight in Canada. Not many of these in .44mag up here (less then 100)
It's a great carbine and a sweet shooter!

I was originally thinking something of a Remington/moss berg cross but it has been so long I would take just about anything.

It's kind of like a scaled down 870....action release and safety are placed like an 870 and you load the 10 round tube magazine from the bottom with the action closed. There is a weaver groove cast into the receiver and the iron sights are quite descent.
The buttstock comes apart from the receiver with a simple breakdown bolt and the angle of the stock can be easily adjusted for a scope or iron sights.
I have only shot one load through this rifle and have not shot for groups, but plinking soup cans off hand at 100yards was no problem with the red dot.
The trigger  has a little creep but is fairly light.
