...And they jailed Kevorkian for it..
« on: February 09, 2013, 01:01:58 AM »
Our deteriorating culture will have to come to grips with itself soon..."Oh what a tangled web we weave......".
http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/02/07/physician-assisted-suicide-measure-passes-nj-assembly/

Now New Jersey wants to pass an "assisted suicide" measure..   Their intentions are that participation by the patient will be "voluntary"..   However, if it goes the direction of everything else in this modern 'slippery slope'  culture..and it a few years it will become " involuntary". ;) ;D

Kevorkian enjoyed his work, which means that the Doctors who do the killing will eventually reach a point where they feel like Gods and will take matters into their own hands and kill those that they think is no longer useful to society.
God help this country.

I see no reason why people shouldn't be able to take their own lives if they wish.  Why can't we mind our own business?

Hey Swampy, people "do" take their own lives, all the time. It's the "Physician Assisted" part that is the controversy. Drs swear an Oath to "do No harm". Its a violation of Trust. Its like a Psychiatrist who has sex with a so called Sex Addict patient...no dice. Its too easy to play God...and Drs (as a rule) tend to have humongous Egos to start with (seems to go with the territory) its too much power over another human being. Granted, this will always be a controversial topic, as many do not believe "Thou shalt do no murder". As I have stated, I lean heavily to the Libertarian side of things (Free Will and all) but this is too much for me; all I see is a sick/desperate human being who wants to have someone else ultimately carry it out. I think desperate people do desperate things, and are not to be taken advantage of...this is just my opinion, no one else is expected or required to have the same one... ;)

We permit our dogs to die with honor but we must go screaming and wallering in our own crap.  Makes sense to me......

Strangely, I couldn't agree more.  The idea is to allow a bit more dignity in the ending of one's life.  Yes, you can always shoot yourself and leave others to clean up a disturbing mess.  There are better ways.  Unfortunately there will always be those who can't help themselves from trying to make their religious beliefs into laws binding everyone...

Amen and unfounded beliefs at that........

I've done funerals for disturbed folks who committed suicide, one was even a member; he showed absolutely no sign of it nor ever spoke with me. He took a bunch of sleeping pills and laid down on the ground behind his exhaust pipe. It disturbed "everyone", and left me and others to try and help people through it. Its sad, and unfortunately, goes on all the time. I made this point that that Religion ( I'm not big on Religion, I am Non-Denominational after all, I just want to be a Christian) had no bearing on the fellow. I've seen very few screaming and wallowing in their own mess, though it happens to some. Its a line that "feelings" want to cross, and morality refuses to, that's all. No argument from me, just saying.

The one bent on suicide can easily sit in the garage with his car engine running..or the doc can give him a cyanide pill to take home..
But the idea of a modern day Frankenstein becoming orgasmic over yet another killing..is distasteful, to say the least!

Swampy this is such a different spin for you. How does it fit with your views on the servicemen you condemn?

Never in my life have I condemned our servicemen or women.  I have no idea what you are talking about.

I called our youth weak and I gave the reasons.  My son has served in 2 wars.  I served too.  We weren't raised by weak and foolish parents (effeminate fathers/liberal mothers.)  If we have a terrible disease we should be allowed to die with dignity.  If you can't understand the difference then I don't know what to say.  Look around and pay attention, our youth (nearly all of them)are cannon fodder.  The girls are so unlady like and the boys are so girlish.  There is no hope for this generation.  The older vets take their lives because they know that and see life as hopeless.  Having survived cancer (I hope) I believe a person should be able to have a little dignity in death and not go screaming and wallering in thier own crap.  There is no sin involved in that.....

True.  we do not have the right to take a life unless they fall into this catagory.

Not true on either count.  Just church nonsense.

You realize, I hope, that what you are saying is your own personal religious belief, and not necessarily the belief of every American, right?  Would it be your position that we simply outlaw all things your religion (or your interpretation of your religion) disapproves of?  Obviously you could not trust other Americans to make decisions that your morals would disagree with, right?  Help me out with a basic list of other things that should be outlawed because your religion doesn't like them?  Gabling, alcohol, tobacco, what about obesity (gluttony)?  Maybe we could just take your religion, make that law, and we could have a nice little theocracy.  That is, of course, exactly what the founders had in mind when they said, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

Actually, as long as we don't call it, "Baptist Law" or "Catholic Law" or whatever, we should be able to just individually pick through the laws and enact them seperately... there is no doubt in my mind that many of the Pro-Consitutional "Conservatives" here would sign up for that...

swampman you obviously live in a very soft neighbourhood. but your generalities about the youth of today are concentrated on a narrow cross section. no doubt there are some bad eggs but considering the vast percentage who are responsible trying to survive in a system so terribly twisted by the taker/boomer generations who have come before them. look at the economics that take all the jobs in manufacturing offshore to pay the golden agers dividends to pay for condos in florida. euthanasia does not worry me but the threat that it becomes involuntary repulses me. the world is rarely so black and white as you suggest

Wrong again on both counts.  They aren't generalities.

Since you don't attend church or the activities of Christians, you must be judging all youth by the actions of your own children.
I know some great kids.

I work with young people.  I'd say one in 10 might be trainable if they decide to come to work.
