Axis barrel swap
« on: February 09, 2013, 12:40:12 PM »
If I had an Axis 22/250, new, how hard is swapping barrels? I would like a 250 Savage but not the pricetag for the 16 FVSS or whatever that model is. Where would be the est place to find a 250 savage barrel??

They are currently out of stock, but they are as cheap as you can get them

If you are in a bigger hurry, then you can order them direct from ER Shaw http://www.ershawbarrels.com/ or several other barrel makers. Here are a few more

http://www.mcgowenbarrel.com/catalog7.htm
http://www.pac-nor.com/prefit/

Be prepared to wait several months for any order to be filled. I currently have a large shank 222 Remington barrel on order and it has been 6 months and not sure when I will get it.

In this climate, if you can locate the rifle in the cailber you want......buy it..........everyone is so far behind it may take forever to get a barrel.

can the shaw or any other barrel go on the axis? isnt there something about the lug which is why no manufactures have come out with wood replacement stocks? I would love a .250 and if it can be done will be looking to get one as well.

Not hard at all, and the Axis/Edge shares the same barrels as the standard shank 110/10 series Savage rifles, so an ER Shaw or any other will fit just fine.   You will just need a barrel nut wrench, and either an action wrench or barrel vise and go/no go gauges.  Plenty of info and youtube videos to get you there.
