Axis/Edge What rings?
« on: February 09, 2013, 02:06:27 PM »
Got the trigger work done on my new Edge, acquired some .223 ammo and was about ready to put a scope on it. I have a Bushnell 4X of unknown vintage, but with pretty good optics, so I mounted it with a set of rings out of my parts box. Went on fine, no problem with clearance because of the length. Started to work the bolt........NO GO!!!! The bolt handle is hitting the ocular bell. :-[  Need taller rings! And a look through my parts box didn't find any that are taller. >:(

What are y'all using on your Axis/Edge for rings?

Ok...a lot of lookers but no comments. :-\

I had planned on using the Bushnell just to get this thing up & running (Oh Gawd I need to pull a trigger bad! :-[ ) But none of the rings in my box would allow bolt handle to clear the ocular bell. And no time to make a trip to the big city to search for rings.....that would only be used for a brief time anyway.

Stopped by the local hardware store and ended up leaving with a Center Point 4-16 X 40 and rings that looked more than tall enough. Got it home and opened the package and out falls a freakin' battery! :o Wat in the heck does a scope need a battery fer!?!?!?........Oh...Illuminated reticle! :o My choice of green or red ::)

Anyway, I got a low budget scope on and the bolt handle clears, so it's ready fer it's first range trip. Now I jist gotta get some time off frum werk. :(

This will all come together eventually, and varmints will be assaulted with malice aforthought! ;D

Hey Cuts, wished i'd seen this post sooner. Bet a bunch of others have missed it too as there's a lot of Axis rifles out there and every danged one of them is a pain to scope. ;D

I look forward to hearing what you've done with your rifle since your last post. Ever get to drop the hammer a time or two?

Personally I got in a rush to shoot mine(.308), didn't do my homework and grabbed a set of redhead mounts from bass pro. They are a bit heavy(steel but made in U.S.!), and I don't like two screw mounts, preferring 4 screw like came with your centerpoint scope. Those are actually great rings btw, and the scope not to shabby either up till you get to higher magnifications. Both are tough as nails. Anyways, I ordered a Redfield 2x7 and it didn't fit between the rings. Tried two or three other scopes I had and none of them fit :-[.   If I could do it again i'd either have mounted a weaver rail, or bought the slightly offset DNZ mounts which would have allowed my initial scope to fit. I unfortunately picked my scope according to my rings requirements instead of the other way around. I ended up with this Minox 3x9x40, and while its ok and barely does fit, I really don't love my mounts or scope, but I do love my Axis ;D

I've gotten used to palming the bolt to keep from squishing my fingers and it works ok. Maybe someday I'll get the DNZ rings and put that Redfield on there. Looking forward to hearing the results of your setup.  J

I need to get a camera!!!!!!!!

The center point scope and the rings that came with it worked out but, like you, I have to palm the bolt. :-\

I think I will eventually end up with a rail and a Leupold scope on it. At any rate it is ACCURATE! (as seen in this post http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,275061.0.html )

That is what offset rings are all about. One or two of them will make a short scope fit.

I have a set of Weaver 6 hole tactical rings holding my Nikon 4.5-14x40 AO Buckmasters on my Edge.  It has a rather long body and the 6 hole rings just fit.  I would go with either Weaver's 4 hole skeleton or their Grand Slam rings if I had a shorter scope and then I might need a one-piece base or go to offset rings.
