357 Magnum SABOT project

thanks. that's a neat idea.


first chance you get, you ought
to get you a piece of 1/8 or so
plate steel and bolt on under
your bench so your press won't
flex so much. my first bench i built
have 2x4's for the top and a piece
of steel underneath about 6x10.
you can stand on the handle.

yeah, i need to do some improving but between shooting videos and keeping my gunshop open in the evenings, its a chore to find time of the littel stuff.

i do understand.
the bench i fixed in the country is
an old thrown-away metal topped
desk. they happened to throw away
an old conference table also. i got the
maintenance man to cut me a section
out of the thick top and i made 12"x18"
section and liquid nailed it to the underside
and bolted the press through that.


i'll have to try your sabot idea here
before long to see what i can make
happen out of my handi

years ago i played with saboted 22 bullets in the 3030 and we even made sabots to shoot .30 cal bullets in the 500 linebaugh. Fun to play with but not much practicality.

Oh my goodness, this is surely going to pull me into the black hole of time..... lol.

Years ago I fooled around with trying to duplicate Remington factory sabots - those were a .22 caliber bullet loaded into a 30-06 cartridge.While in theory these shoucdl have worked great, they just weren't accurate.  I would love to know how these 38 spl cased sabots work out for you.  I've got a couple of .357 mag revolvers but I'm thinking that this type round would surely be fun in my Blackhawk, especially because of its 6" barrel. 

I'm curious what drove you to choose this arrangement - was it because of the available components or were you specifically working on something for a revolver?  You've got me thinking about what could be done using a 45/70 parent casing.
