Whats your favorite hog bait?
« on: February 17, 2004, 04:08:21 AM »
I know most use corn for bait. Does anyone have a special recipe that really brings them in? Do mixes work better? Thanks, mike

my recipe  works very well get  a 5 galon bucket fill it  up with corn get 1 pack of yeast a beer about 3 cups sugar and some strawberry jello fill  the  bucket  up  with water after putting  all  other  ingredients, stir it up then put  a  lid  on it  i put  mine  in direct  sunlight i always  let  mine  sit  for  at  least 5  days   the longer  the   better after  3  days open it  up  and add  water   to fill  it back  up.  Be careful  as  the  contnts  are  under pressure  and  boy does  it stink   good  luck  and hope  this helps

I use either corn or a cattle sweet feed right out  of a 50# bag.  works great.

if  doing  quick  hunts  i  use  sweet  feed   i  dig  holes  and  put  layers  of  sweet  feed  then  sprinle  it  on  top  of  the  grounds   youd  be  surprised   how  they  work  to  get  the  sweet  feed  out  of  the  ground

I have had decent luck by filling a 5 gallon bucket half full of deer corn and putting some hog wild in with it and filling about 2/3 full with water. Afterwards let it set outside covered for about a week and add more water as needed. I just dig small holes and place some in the ground and cover it up and pitch some around on the ground.  :-)

Wanna try something different?

Believe it or not, I use Bananas and Apples.

I came back the next day, and it was all gone!  You saw hog trails all over the place!

The next time, I took the banana peelings and hung them on bushes and trees so that the wind could take the scent downwind.

Of course I still use corn - the fool proof way, but they sure love those apples and bananas.   :)

I make my son ware a corn cob suit and run around the woods. When he got hogs chasing him, he runs back to me and I shoot the hogs.  :D  LOL  :D  I thought it was funny too. :D . But I have never hunted hogs over bait. I have to try it some time.
