:grin:  I agree with everything EXCEPT the part about hot water. In a ML rifle I could never get oil in fast enough to prevent flash rusting. Besides, IMHO hot water cleans no better than tepid or even cold water for that matter. This is just my 2 cents worth.  Gatoefo, I remember you from the shooters.com website & have always enjoyed your opinions.

Gatofeo, I agree lots of good info on your thread. I also started shooting the BP guns many moons ago (30+ years), and was a true believer in the boiling water technique for cleaning. That was until about two years ago when I was introduced to "mule snot" (equal parts of Murphy's Soap Oil, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol) seasoning my BP guns with this solution has made my clean-up very simple and fast, and you won't find a speck of rust on any of my smoke poles. I do use Bore Butter to lube them instead of Crisco, as I've found Crisco to spoil after a pro-longed period of time I haven't found that to be true with BB. and I seem to get better protection against the elements. JMHO.
