« on: February 12, 2013, 04:19:02 PM »
Found a steel 30-06 round that screws together and holds a .22 round inside and can be fired out the end.
It says "30-06 ZIP"   on the side of it .  Anybody know what it was made for ?????

I believe I have seen these things advertised years ago. It will hold and fire the 22 and even has a super short rifled barrel inside so you can shoot a 22 from your 06.

The old ZIP case used a .22 blank to propel a very light bullet, more of a copper as I recall. The ZIP company may have made adapters to fire regular .22 bullets too, I guess.
But I know that in my old American Rifleman magazines, I've seen ads for the ZIP auxiliary cartridge that used a .22 blank to shoot its very light proprietary bullet. This was used for indoor practice, and perhaps dispatching very small varmints like rats, mice and sparrows. Not sure how accurate the system was, I've only seen the ads.
"A hit with a .22 is better than a miss with a .44."
