Who watches ?
« on: February 14, 2013, 02:22:55 AM »
Ok over the last year or more there have been topics that deal with Glock pistols as example . The discussion often turns to durablity among other things. I alway note that the plastic parts may or may not age well . Then someone will bring up a gun that has shot a zillion rounds with out a hitch. Then most of the time it leads to how heat effects the plastic and as I have posted I have seen the mags split they had been subjected to summer heat in a closed vehicle.  . Well there have been a couple of these topics. The latest issue of Glock's annual magazine came out with an article about a magazine or two that went thru. a 2000+ degree fire. Do you think business people look here to see how their products are recived in the market ? to see if they can defend themselves ? or to even find ideas for new products ? Any other examples anyone noticed ? If so could we as a group use it to steer producers to make the items we want ?
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I feel comfortable saying at least some of the people involved in this industry research these online forums for consumer info.
How much and what kind I'm not sure of.

Well you can have the alien therorists or the practical view of things.  Both make some sense.
I watch TV and have seen people looking at the pyramids in Egypt and in Mexico and say they prove that aliens must have been involved in showing people how to build a pyramid because they are so similar and the distances are so far apart.
Others look at it and say the easiest way to build a tall building is a pyramid and even little kids with blocks will make a pyramid.
So my answer is possibly industry people head to forums but my guess is gun people talk about topics and car heat is one of those topics when you talk about plastics.
Also the same people that post here will write into to manufactures and ask these same questions.

I believe we are seen as rubes. I have no way of backing that up, but experience with most business types leads me to believe that.

The purchasing manager of a large police force, however gets lots of attention. A very very high profile Sho' 'nuf operator, on contract as a factory rep will get some attention. Individual officers speaking with a multitude of voices will get attention.

How would this sound as an ad spot? After deep discussion and analysis of the needs of Mall Ninjas across this land Glock has released the new for 2014 Glock 7. The glock 7 would come with three rails one each for lights lasers and optics. Standard mag capacity would be 40 rounds with included 7 round mag for concealed carry. The gun would come with a really cool engraving from some military elite force perhaps. Add a cool finish, diamond plate? Grips du jour?

Good Christ I'm describing SIG Sauer ...  :o  Yes, as a matter of fact Gun makers do value the opinion of the commoner. ;D

Good questions. Usually its an after market group that will make the changes or add ons. The manufactor just issues a base platform.

I think it often works the other way around.  The marketing people think up something new, come up with a good sales pitch for it, and the manufacturer introduces it hoping it will catch on and sell.

An example might be the Taurus Judge.  How many people do you know were wishing someone would make a .410/.45 Colt revolver?  Then as soon as it came out gazillions of people who had never even thought of it just HAD to have one.  Or how about desert tan colored handguns?  Surely, the number of people who live in the desert here in the U.S. are small compared to the total population - yet I'm sure most of them are sold to people who live far removed from any desert type of terrain??
The latest color (color of the week?) seems to be purple - how many times have you read here of someone wishing they would make a purple Ruger?

If plastic guns had even minimal problems, they would not be so proficient.  The PD's across American wouldn't have bought them.
Me, I don't like 'em.  I have 2, and they are good guns, easy to carry, but I'm too old to warm up to plastic.

It was a banker named David Hannum that said "there's a sucker born every minute", not P.T.Barnum.

I don't know if writting things here will do anything.
I do know that about 12 years ago I sent S&W a letter  to the marketing department with an idea for a CCW revolver as to what i thought would be a great line.
With in a year of sending the letter S&W came out with a gun very similar to what I specified in the 696 in 44 Special.
I think if you send your idea to them the marketing department will do some research and see if it is just you or if there are more that would want it as well.

Ok , so lets pick a product , a producer and see if we can make a dent  ;D  maybe get Glock to offer a combo pack . Say a 23 sized gun with 40 S&W , 357 Sig and 9mm barrels and mags to work. I think it would be a nice kit to own. allowing the owner a choice of aval. ammo or less expensive pratice . In Battleship gray , green or tan would be a plus.  ;D If Glock or someone else also offered a 22 conversion for it so much the better . Bet the preppers would be all over it .

P-250 SIG and you don't even have to settle with one grip size or barrel length. Next.

OOO,
I like the idea.
A black frame, and a Battle ship grey 9mm Slide and mags, Khaki slide and mags for 40, and Black in 357 Sig with black mags.
Maybe not the whole mag is colored but maybe the mag plate is colored to match the slide.  And Red for 22LR.  Barrels and guide rods should be the same color as well.
