Looking for Mid Kansas prairie dog shooting
« on: February 14, 2013, 06:20:35 AM »
Hello, I am trying to find some info for places around mid kansas area to shoot prairie dogs.  Would like to find a place to camp out over night & do a couple of days worth of shooting.  Really looking for some places to start researching now for a June hunt.  Any help would be appreciated.  I am around the st louis area & would rather not drive to ok or the western border of ks.

Would like to keep the drive under 10 hours from st louis.  Nebraska is not out of the question either.  Don't mind paying but not top dollar.  Thanks again

I did a bunch of research a couple of yrs ago on KS and at that time the only reliable populations seemed to be the western boarder counties. I put out some feelers like you are but came up empty and planned to just go and see what i could find by driving...gas wasn't $3.75 a gal then though. Ended up going to SD instead . But populations change. One thing with PD in KS is they have laws that force people to control population other wise the county come in a poisons @ your expence . Good luck Kurt

Call the locals and check before you drive very far. The plague took it's toll on the dog towns a few years back.

Thanks guys, I talked to a guide type service in syracuse & seems like the drought last year has probably hurt the numbers.  They are waiting until april to see whats what before booking any hunts.  $150 a day plus a 10.5 hour drive.  Still looking & thats all I have came up with so far.
