Switchbarrel setup gets some new duds...
« on: February 15, 2013, 12:26:16 PM »
Thought I'd post a pick.  I bought the stock from another member and got it mounted a few minutes ago.  I've liked these stocks since seeing the Ultra .45-70, so here's my blued iron sighted version.  ;)

Somehow these shooters don't look so 'cheap' once you dress them up a little.  Nice.!

What are the other barrels?  Probably just me, but I like a hammer spur on all my Handi's.  Gives a lot more surface area for a cold gloved thumb, or in the case of thumb hole lams an index finger.  Same holds true when it's hot and sweaty.

What's up with the forend screw?  It looks really long.  That is a good looking set of furniture.

that would hurt to shoot!  You'd have to shoot it from the wrong side.

The forend screw is a thumbscrew, so I can remove the forend without tools.  I have 9 different calibers on this frame, so it makes swapping a little easier.  Saves me digging out my knife or screwdriver anyway.

you know i have always kept my guns on dedicated receivers just because. well fitted 2 to one and at the range swapped them back and forth and no point of impact change. was amazed and maybee lucky. Nice looking gun

That's a nice looking rifle Tack. ;)
I love those camo lam thumbhole sets. I've got a set on my 280 and just gave a set to my brother in law for his 243 and my nephew's got a left handed set on his 270 Handi. I guess you could say they're pretty popular around here. ;D

I try to keep dedicated frames for my barrels but I do have a couple that I switch around. As long as the forearm fits both barrels the same I don't see any difference in POI.

Thanks guys, really liking it, albeit I haven't shot it yet.  Showed it off at a family gathering yesterday and one of the guys went right out and bought an older, but good shape Tracker I from a friend of the family that wasn't using his.  He intends to get these stocks for his too.  lol

One thing i also noticed is that forearm looks a bit thicker than a usual one. Is it or are my eyes playing tricks on me

Hey Tacklebury... that definitely looks like the Boyd's Sterling buttstock, but that pot-bellied forend looks different than any of the Boyd's I have seen... is that one of their older designs or is it from another source? I like it... would like to scrounge up a couple to dedicate and bed to swap barrels. Thanks.

It is a Boyds buttstock for sure.  I bought it from Myank, so maybe he can say what the forend is.  I think it is a little thicker though, because I had to use a 3/8" spade bit and run it into the recess just a bit to get my thumbscrew to get a good grab.  Feels really good in my hands.  8)

My 22-250 wears these duds!  I was not sure I would like itbefore I stuck my thumb in it and sent it downrange. I am confident in this thing. I can drive tacks with mine. Love it.
Thanks, Jer
