Gun shows still packed and prices are high! 2/16/2013

Hi guys    


Went to a gun show this morning before work and people were stacked up outside 15 minutes before the open.  I was about the 40th person in line.  The place was packed within 20 minutes after the doors opened and there was almost no movement in the isles    The prices were HIGH.  Only saw one table that had anything reasonable on it.  A guy had a couple of pmags for $30 each.  I told him those won't last long    [size=78%] [/size]He also had some Winchester shotgun primers for $30 per thousand which has been the going price prior to the panic.  Saw an AK with a folding stock for $1,000!!! Don't see this settling down anytime soon

i went to my local show last weekend. when i got there the line to get in was 200 yrds long. quiet orderly and friendly.strangers chatting with each other.when i got near the door i paused a min to make a phone call, a guy grabbed me and said" hey go on in, yu were ahead of us". i thought about what this situation would of been like if it was a line of democrats waiting to get some nikes or a new just released phone or ipad or whatever they like. i can promise you a 45 min wait with them would not of been as friendly.
 
once inside it was crowded, the ammo setups were clogged with people.no matter, i didnt need any ammo. i got everything i needed well after 08 panic subsided.
 
regular gun prices were about the same for a gunshow.high but same as always. anything tactical, assault type stuff was way high.i did notice 1911 prices really hadnt changed.i was toteing a nice mini 14 stainless i could let go of. like guns on tables were priced 1200$ i priced mine at 1000$. didnt get a bite on it, but didnt need the money either.
 
i left with 1 lb of imr 4198 and 1 lb of 4350 to add to my stock.i think i gave about 28 buks a lb.high but not gougeing high.by adding these 2 lbs im prob good for 10 years with what ive got now.4198 is my fav 223 powder and also good for older rounds like 30-30.4350 works well in my 6.5x55 and many other bottleneck rounds.

I'll probably never go to another one...no bargains and they are charging $12 ea to get in the door.

Once in a while you find a good deal but you have to go to a lot of shows to find them.  I usually go for the entertainment with friends.  I like to chat with some of the vendors too.  Cost for the shows here are $5.

I went to one here in northern Louisiana a couple weeks ago. It was crowded, but no more than usual. Gun prices were about the same as always too. I left with a new Rossi 92 in 45LC for $490. No great bargain, but not too high either, IMO. One thing I did notice price gouging on was 22LR ammo. There were only a couple of bricks to be found and they had them marked $50 each. Glad I have a couple bricks already. I'll wait till the panic subsides before I go after 22 ammo.

I'm like Bulletstuffer, I view gun shows as an entertainment venue like going to the movies or a ball game.   I don't go with the expectation of finding bargains.  If I do run across a good deal I consider it a bonus.   They usually cost about $7.00 or $8.00 around here, about what it cost for a movie ticket.

I went to one yesterday.  Lots of tacticle stuff and handguns but not much ammo.  I did find a nice 1895 Marlin at a good ordinary price; it came home with me.  The line was 100 yards when I got there and longer before I got in, but it moved quick so I got in in about 15 minutes.  The number of tables was much reduced.  Great entertainment.

I went to a gun show this morning.  Line was backed up over 300 yards 15 minutes after opening at 9:00AM.  Stayed the same till I left at 2:PM.  It was so crowded no one could move half the time.  I bought a gun cleaning kit for a friend, and ammo can for another friend, and helped his wife pick out a concealled carry purse for herself.  Bought a .380 while in line from the guy behind me for $70.00.  Sold it an hour later to a woman for $125.00.  I hate .380s, I only bought it to resell.   
 
Lots of ARs, prices really inflated.  I was looking for 5.7 ammo for my son.  Only one dealer had any and he sold out within 10 minutes of opening.  .223 ammo was going for $1.18 per round, I did not buy any.  .17 Hornet was non existent as well.  Did not see many guns being sold, but did see bunches of ammo going out the door.  Especially those sealed metal cans of 7.62X39, and 5.56. 
 
I was looking for a 6.5 Grendel in an AR Platform.  Most people did not know what I was talking about.  Also when I asked for .17 Hornet ammo they kept handing me .17HMR.  Even the dealers down here in Florida seem to not be very knowledgable about new guns or ammo.  One dealer told me a .460 Smith would not shoot .45LCs or 454s.  He was explaining to every one in hearing that the bullet was .460 and too big for a .45 caliber gun.  I looked at him, said "Yea", and walked off.  Taurus has a ner version out of the long carbine length JUDGE that has a lever to cock the gun.  Thought some one might hace one of those.  No luck.

I was at our local gunshow this morning, and yes, it was crowded!!!
Prices were about the same as they have always been.  Lots of ammo and reloading components.
ARs and AKs type rifles were selling well, though at high prices.  But most of the sales were pistols.
Got one lbs of IMR3031 for $30.00 and a small box of Eley 22lr Target for $5.00.  Not bad.



People were very friendly.

I hit up a show in Bloomington, IL today. It was pretty packed, too. Prices were nuts. I saw bricks of .22LR with $60 on the price tag. Not sure if anyone was buying, though. Hilltop Gun Shop was there, too. I guess they're a bunch of Rock River employees, who sell guns on the side. They were well stocked with complete rifles, uppers and lowers. I think it's kinda bogus that they're getting all kinds of fresh merch to sling at the shows, while everyone else has to wait for their back orders to come in... But I digress. If that's how RRA wants to run the show, it's their perogative.  I thought about picking up a new upper from them, but I noticed EVERYTHING they had was marked up $100 to $200 over suggested retail. Complete lowers were $400 to $500. Uppers started around $800. I guess if you were desperate to get something, you could...but I just couldn't do it.

There's good shows and bad shows.
I won't pay $10-12 to get in one.
Do that a couple times and your  bargain you  found isn't so good.

Our local shows are $6 to get in the door. Next one won't be until May, tho. I'll spend 2 days behind tables hoping people want what I've got for sale. Prices will be the same as they were for the last show in November. If there are any deals; they'll be made the day before the show when we set up our tables.

now that rite there is freekin funny! especially since i purchased my ammo years ago and reload also. when it costs me a buck a round, every round will be goin into sum tasty meat for sure.

I also attended a show on the 16th in Novi, MI.  Packed house, unfortunately the people milling around the tables were mostly the dealers themselves, not many guests.  Prices were pretty high, AR-15's and variants were scarce, and unfortunately for me, no one was buying.  I had an NRA/CMP 30-40 Krag carbine for sale, and a Springfield Mk1 in excellent condition....couldn't get a bite and I kept dropping my asking prices till I decided they cost nothing to stuff back in the safe for another 10 years.  Was an interesting show though and I had a great time chatting with numerous vendors and collectors.
