Wal Mart Stopping Ammo Sales?
« on: February 16, 2013, 01:54:47 PM »
I know many Wal Marts have quit selling  firearms but word here in  Branson, Missouri is that they will soon quit selling ammo too. I've heard this three times in the last two days and two of the times from Wal Mart employees. Has anyone else  heard anything about it in your areas? No real big deal but I hope this isn't a trend for other's to stop ammo sales too. Stop and think folks. If they can't take our guns what good will they do us if we can't find ammo for them?

Not likely Wally World would stop selling ammo.  I believe it is a big money maker for them.  As far as guns go I think only a few of the stores with poor sales of guns removed them.  My local WM has plenty of guns but there ammo shelves are about empty except for shotgun shells.

Our local ones are getting in trickling amts. of ammo, and dept. mgr. said he wished he could get a couple trailer loads...so they apparently aren't going to quit any time soon.

Frankly, If they quit selling things like ammo, and firearms I would hava no reason to be there. Those things,  like oil, filters and auto care products are all I ever go there for anymore,  if  go at all. I try to avoid W M since the chicoms own it now! I do go there if it makes my life simpler.

Yep, I know. I live just minutes from there but even they are short on handgun ammo. Doc Holliday's might have some or some place in Springfield.

Brett, might just be local but I gotta go with what the folks who work there are telling me. Particularly since I've known them for several years and not someone I just met.

Mechanic, before hearing this I was told that the main office wasn't allowing stores to order ammo. They were only going to get what ever was sent them. Guess time will tell where all of this is going but I'm sure glad I've been stockpiling ammo for the last couple years. However there are a couple calibers it wouldn't hurt my feelings to have more of. ;)

Oldshooter, I feel much the same but living in the country Wal Mart is convenient for us. Still, that don't mean I can't, or won't, drive a few extra miles to go elsewhere.

The walmarts here have little or nothing in ammo. One store mgr said that when the warehouses were empty they would not order any more.
My old store had a sign on the counter, NO AMMO BEING DELIVERED TODAY. I'll be glad when this ammo run is over with, I love to shoot but do very little becaus I don't want to shoot what I can't replace. A gunshop said that a  guy from ARK stopped in and saw the 22 ammo and asked if there was a limit, he said no. The guy took every 22 shell in the store, almost $900 worth. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

The Wal-marts by me stopped selling firearms long ago. It wouldn't surprise me if they dropped ammo, too. Frankly, it wouldn't bother me either. There are a few farm stores near me that have ammo on the shelf (usually), that I prefer to shop at. Only thing I ever buy at Wally World is the bulk packs of TP. That's about all that place is good for, anymore.

The Walmart here has been out of most ammo except shotgun and a few rifle rounds for months.  I asked when they would get some pistol ammo and they said when the order they only get what they are sent...not what they asked for.  The dept manager said they ordered like 3000 rounds of 9mm and got 2 boxes of 50!! 5000 rounds of 22 and got 1 brick. It's sad....and frustrating.   I have ammo for most of my firearms....but not as much as I'd like and Black Rock Ammo here doesn't load for my 10mm yet.
I love to shoot.  500 S&W Mag, 480 Ruger Taurus RB, S&W 686 Stainless, 10mm Witness.

I wonder how much the floor people know of corporate plans.  My WM, is mostly bare unless you need odd things like 300 RUM (!).  My choices are WM with prices that are not raised, Bass Pro with a lot higher prices, Sports Authority, (high), Gander (real high), or Sportsmans (12 miles the wrong way), and one gun shop.  All of them are out of almost everything, including components.

This ammo shortage is nothing new. It's caused by "asleep at the wheel" citizens that react to a sudden barrage of news on the TV.
On the other hand Missouri is trying to pass sweeping gun laws as we speak about not only making "assault type" weapons illegal in Missouri, but actually REQUIREING them to be turned in, or confiscated. You would not be able to sell them, and trying to do so would be a felony. You would either turn them in to the local police, or have them picked up at your home. It's a good time NOT to live in Missouri. The state police are backing this attempt, and are supporting it. Go figure.

Most walmarts in upstate ny in my neck of the woods are about worthless when it comes to guns and ammo.  First they got rid of the guns then their ammo shelves have been bare since prince andrew decided there needed to be background checks for ammo purchases.

But, that doesn't stop reloaders and, if we are going to order ammo and go through a background check every time, then we will order big so we don't have to put up with the state police horsesh_t about ordering large amounts of ammo.

Dee:  that is the same problem in nys since the governor rammed through his gun ban law.  Unfortunately for him, and every cop in the state who now wears a bullseye on his or her chest, is that 65% of our 4.75 million gun owners, or 3.08 million gun owners, have said they refuse to register or surrender their firearms, which means that those bullseye wearing cops will have to come get them - and that's when the fight is gonna start...

I don't think there has been a sufficient and logical explanation of why the federal government has ordered such an enormous amount of ammunition--yet.  I wonder to what extent those government orders have gobbled up production and caused the shortages for civilians.

On the other hand, although I wouldn't put anything past the regime, that type of strategy would be lame even for them.

Walmart issued a letter saying they will continuse to sell guns and ammo but they can't get any right now.  I buy ammo and guns there because they have the best prices.  They've been putting guns back in stores they took them out of down here.

I think that Swampy is most likely dead on here. WalMart doesn't have the product, because of the run on both. I would say however, that if you buy ammo at Walmart, to pay cash! A credit or debit, or check purchase, will go into their computer data base with you name on it. And we all know where that info will end up.

Some folks much wiser than I have theorized that the government is arming up for the coming revolt when the economy collapses.  Again, I wouldn't rule out anything by this regime, but this is kind of a stretch.

Maybe the gov is doing the same thing they did in the mid to late 1800s to the AMERICAN INDIANS.
We can't beat them so let's just starve them out!
If that's the case, looks like I am going to be eating high on the hog the rest of my life, ammo and componet wise.  :D ;)

Our WMs are well stocked with firearms and not so bad on ammo.
A little shy on calibers but enough to get you by.
I found a small mom & pop type store that has plenty of ammo including 22s of all types.
Prices are not as high as the gun shops with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 that refuse to gouge their customers.

My wife called last night, she was out looking for ammo.  Today is Sky's birthday and we had gotten him an FN 5.7.  The shop I bought it from had no ammo for it.  I found a box down here in Florida two weeks ago at a gun show.  But only one box.  Last night she stopped at Sportsman's Warehouse.  The assiciate told her they had been having a problem with people stealing the 5.7 ammo, so it was located at Customer Service.  She went up there and they had a limit on, two boxes per customer.  She bought two boxes, $29.95 per box of 50.  My buddy Norm and his wife were along with her, so Norm stepped up and bought two boxes also.  When they got outside he handed them to the wife and said their gift to Sky for his birthday.  While they were in the store they also looked for .17 Hornet for me.  None on the shelves, in fact the shelves were almost bare of ammo.  She said guns were flying off the shelves, and there was a line going almost to the front door of people waiting for service at the gun counter.  There was seven people working the gun counter, and the rifle racks were getting bare.

She went to Wal-Mart.  They were almost out of ammo as well, no .22RF or .223.  Just the odd ball stuff that few people have guns for.  The clerk told her they just could not get enough in to satisfy the demand.  Guns were being sold at Wal-Mart as well, when she got there.

Her next stop was Fred Myers, Their ammo shelves were bare, and most guns were gone.  Her last stop was Frontier Outfitters, they were out of almost all ammo.  All Semi-auto rifles were gone.  And they were selling all makes of .45ACPs.  All their 1911s were gone.  On a whim she bought four boxes of .45ACP, and 4 boxes of .17 HMR, and the last three boxes of .357s.  The .357s were for herself, as were the .17HMRs.  Seems since I left she is having problems with Coyotes and Lynx on her morning and evening walks.  When she sits down on the front porch swing in the evening she says Coyotes come out right at sundown.  She has shot one with the .17 HMR.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Possessing an assault weapon in Missouri would be illegal under a bill that has been introduced by a state House Democrat.
Rep. Rory Ellinger, of University City, filed a bill this week that would require gun owners to give up their semi-automatic weapons within 90 days of the measure's passage. Failure to surrender an assault weapon would result in a felony charge.
It would also be illegal to manufacture or import such weapons in the state. The measure would exempt state and federal law enforcement from the ban.
The bill has not been referred to a House committee, and the Republican-led Legislature is unlikely to act on it.

I've heard several Missouri Sheriff's departments that have publicly stated they would refuse to enforce such action and would go as far as arresting any Federal Officer that tried a door to door confinscation. My opininion? When was the last time we in America were so mistrusting of our Government's intentions?  Obama's plans to destroy America from within are in full swing!

I'll also tell you this too. As a result of my recent heart surgery I'm now going through Heart Rehab Therapy. I meet a wide variety of folks having to do the same and a large number of them.  Every single man and woman there, including patients and the full staff of nurses and doctors, either have or are getting Conceal Carry Permits. Seems everyone I know or meet everywhere either already has one or are now taking the classes to get one.  The local County Sheriff's Departments in mine and the surrounding counties are so backlogged that there's a full month, or more, waiting list just to be able to go in and have your background checks started and to be fingerprinted. When I got mine, a bit over 4 years ago, it took just three days and only that long because of the weekend. People are not going to go down without a fight!
