Current Handi 45-70 - Ejector or Extractor?
« on: February 16, 2013, 08:45:49 PM »
Hi All,
Just ordered a Handi in 45-70. Have seen vids where some seem to have the old style shotgun ejecton-over-shoulder and others have just extraction.

Any idea what current production is?

Is switching just a parts change?

If it doesn't change accuracy, I could see where I might want extraction at the range, but ejection in the field.

The new ones are all extractors.  Check the FAQs at the top of the page to see possible conversions.

Thanks for the tip Pete. This one jumped out, but in just skimming it... I'm not sure what he's doing exactly, but it seems he's seriously modifying the gun. I.e. it's not just a simple parts change.

Is that a correct summary?

That's correct.  It's not a simple parts change.  I've had a couple converted the other way, ejector to extractor.  That's in the FAQs also.

I can only speak for Hornady leverevolution cuz it's the only thing i've shot so far, but I can raise the barrel, pop open the action with my right hand and the shell falls out ready for the next round in my left. I am pretty confident with that.
