new addition to the charter familey .44 spl.
« on: February 17, 2013, 11:21:06 PM »
i just bought a charter arms bulldog SS in .44 spl. my younger brother bought a blue charter .38 stub nose  about 30 years ago(i didn,t think much of it) and carried it  just about every day,the finish was just about gone when he died, but it still worked. it changer my mind about charters and i bought a like new pathfinder 6" barreled .22 mag several years ago and i like it. well this charter .44 spl. SS with 3 inch barrel and factory bobbed hammer like new in the original box showed up at a local gun show at a cut rate price. i was given 10 shells with it and fired 5 rounds at about 15 yds at a gallon can and hit it every shot. not a real test but it showed it will be all right for close up defence. and its all steel no alloy. eastbank.

Nice find. I love my stainless Bulldog. I wish Ruger when get on board with a DA 44 special.

Early Bulldogs were great guns. 44Spl has excellent stopping power without over penetration. Gotta love Charter's pocket hammer, no snag but still allows single & double action. I really like mine & am sure you will like yours.

I keep waiting for them to come out with the 44 bulldog "classic" 3"...with no ejector shroud like they used to make. Had a real good one once a long time ago, still kicking myself for letting it get away.  I see they have it on their web sight yet as something coming...someday?

You might wanna rethink that - back in the day, I owned a blued .44 BD, soon found I had a tiger by the tail, and soon sold it to buy something else with more controlability.

A few years ago though, after jonesin' for one again - I lucked into one of the newer stainless models with rubber bumbers - and the bit more weight & better grips make all the difference in the world.

Not sure about the 'all steel', check your trigger guard, our ss Pathfinder's is not steel. Even so, we like the little thing (not a 44, BTW) and after some 400 'dampened fall' dbl. action dry fires it has slicked up pretty nice.
I had a pair of the blue 44 BD's back in the early '80's (?); wish I had not let them go. I made 'start' level 44Spl loads with the Ly 429421 SWC and they were good shooters with some beans. The few factory dup. loads I fired were, for sure & certain, snotty.
