Proposed Bill Would Force Gun Owners in NY to Buy At Least $1 MILLION in Liability Insurance or Forfeit ‘Privilege’ to Own a Firearm !

Anti Gun Bill Introduced in NY Would Force Gun Owners to Purchase At Least $1 MILLION in Liability Insurance Credit: Getty Images The anti-gun bills continue to roll in. The latest bill, introduced in the New York State Assembly by Democrat Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, seeks to force all gun owners to purchase at least $1 million in liability insurance to cover any damages caused by firearms. It would be a mandatory requirement for anyone who owns a gun, as those who refuse to comply within 30 days would have their firearms confiscated.
“Any person in this state who shall own a firearm shall, prior to such ownership, obtain and continuously maintain a policy of liability insurance in an amount not less than one million dollars specifically covering any damages resulting from any negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person,” the bill, AO3908, states.
“Failure to maintain such insurance shall result in the immediate revocation of such owner’s registration, license and any other privilege to own such firearm,” the bill adds.
Further, even if a New Yorker’s gun is stolen, they are still responsible for any damage incurred until a loss or theft is reported to the police. The bill has been reportedly been passed along to the Assembly’s Insurance Committee, according to the Washington Times.
The Examiner estimates that simple liability insurance for $1 million would cost gun owners about $1,600-2,000 annually.
Lawmakers in California, Maryland and Massachusetts have introduced similar bills aimed at forcing gun owners to purchase liability insurance.
The bill comes after New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the toughest gun laws in the nation, enacting a ban on semi-automatic rifles and limiting magazine capacity to seven. It appears that New York lawmakers still aren’t satisfied.

If those freaks running N.Y. can't be stopped any other legal and peaceful way, then its time for New Yorkers who care, to vote with their feet. Time for ya'll to come south or go west and help fortify the states that still have common sense and obey the Constitution.

I lived in N.Y. for about 10 years, and I can verify that there's a HUGE contingent of hunters and sportsman in N.Y. these guys use their shotguns for deer season in a way that pales my current N.C. in comparison. The hills are awashin orange on opening day. These are common working folks in many cases, who really would have a hard time paying an extra 2 grand for gun insurance, taxes are high throughout N.Y., gas astronomical and jobs have been few since the early seventies when the companies who made N.Y., left it. Time to let that state collapse via its own policies.  J

NYC is the GUTTER of the US........ No one would miss it if a meteor hit it and whiped it out. LA and Chicago are not far behind.
If NY does this only the criminals will have guns (meaning the New York government)................
Just another worthless opinion!!

I agree, New York is beyond hope at this point. The good people that live there should just bail out at this point and move to a free state. Let that caca-hole collapse and go bankrupt.

10 years ago I came to the conclusion that Massachusetts is beyond hope and voted with my feet. I'm much happier in New Hampshire, a gun friendly state with no income or sales tax.

Yeah I'm just about sure of it, as N.Y. classifies blackpowder and airguns as firearms.   :(

Good for you DB, we gotta battle em howevever we legally can. I'm prepared to drop into gun friendly S.C. if North Carolina should go the way of the liberal. We're sitting with the first full deck of conservatives in state gubment here in N.C. since the civil war though, we're in good hands for now. J

These new proposed insurance requirements and taxes on guns and ammo are nothing more than an attempt to dissuade us from legally owning firearms without having to actual ban them and run asunder of the 2A.

The politicos and elitist (sorry for the redundancy) can say they haven't trampled any ones right to own a gun they just places some "common sence stipulations" on them.  It' not their fault that we can't afford $2, 000 liability insurance or $3.00 a round ammo.   >:(

Yeah, it's a constant battle here to maintain the liberty that we have left. Right now the senate is Dem controlled and the house is Rep controlled with a Dem governor. The Free State Project has helped things here but we need more liberty minded folks to move here to offset the influx of statists from Mass, Conn, NY, NJ, etc.

There is a .223 rally in Concord and Nashua tomorrow. While looking at the info for this I found out that NH has an anti-militia law on the books. I wanted to show up with an M1 carbine slung on my shoulder. NH is an open carry state but there is a law saying that people aren't allowed to be openly armed in large group gatherings, essentially killing any militia gatherings. We know this is unconstitutional but it's never been challenged. I can't find any info on who or when this bill was written.

Folks, this is just an example of sticking your head in the sand and saying this is a cure.
It is useless to rant against these folks---they have their head in the sand, saying--NaNaNa--I can't hear you.

It's called defacto gun banning and is as unconstitutional as it would be to require citizens to carry defamation insurance in case someone misuses their first amendment.  It demonstrates that the authors and backers of such legislation are nothing more than hypocrites who do not believe in liberty and should not be allowed anywhere near the seats of government.  Where is the ACLU and the NRA?

I often wounder if the NRA has any interest in NY State. Just got my 2ND NRA mag. printed after passage of the NYSafe act, and still nothing. I think this will be like the 94  AW ban we have, it will be fought by  NY residents and their paid lawyers. We will most likely be stuck with it as the judges do what the NY gov. tells them to and the cost is so high.
