I would love to have something like that!  I bet that would be great for those long casts if you could get the bait to stay on the hook while you launch it.  Wonder what the game warden would say to you fishing with it though?  On a serious note however, that is really unique, and looks like it would be an interesting toy.  May I ask what the barrel lenght is and what it's actually good for besides throwing line ship to ship?  I'm guessing 12"?

lonegun,

I believe it is a USCG approved line throwing device.  I am not sure if it is a regulated firearm or not but it is listed as a 45-70govt caliber.   It is supposed to be able to launch a small line a few hundred feet so you can then retrieve a heavy line.  It might be kinda interesting to put a fishing arrow in it and try to pop a large grass carp.  Maybe one of you guys down in "da swamp" can try it on a gator? :o    There is one for sale on gunbroker if ya just gotta have it. ;)

I was just thinking a way to cast a hook a long ways, but I like your idea much better.  I'd have to go a ways East to find a gator though, so maybe someone else can help us out with testing that project.

I am glad you explained what it was.  With the silver thing attached to the front of it I thought you had modified it to mount on your forearm like Iron Man!:))

Don't know the price, but you can order a new one if you want.  Although I bet you'd enjoy Dinny's barrel a little more. ;)

Tim,

I posted this because it is a new production H&R including the inspection port on the right side of the receiver.

A guy on a local forum got one of those in a trade a while back, he called atf and they said as long as the rope container stays on it it is legal and no paper work is required. If that is removed it is a sbr.  Also fairly sure it is only legal with black powder blanks, his came with a box of them.
