Anybody got any info on a J.P. Sauer?
« on: February 22, 2013, 12:01:40 PM »
I just picked up a montana marshall in .357 mag. Which in itself seems unusual, cause most of the montana marshalls i've seen looking online were in 44 with a brass grip frame. I'm not looking for a value cause it was worth it to me for what i paid and i'm not selling it. The cylinder has NO give when locked into place and it's as smooth as can be.

But it got me curious as to some details though. I.e. do the different model names mean anything? Western marshall seems the most common, this one's montana, i've seen some others too.

And is there anywhere i can find info on the serial? It's 198xx/3

Zero, I think Sauer (Hawes, Hy Hunter) offered a lot of 'different' special models.  And I have seen some with the same model name fitted with different features, usually in the finish.  Some with chrome frames, blued cylinders and barrels, and brass grip straps.  So other then the 'Western' Marshall being the most common, fully blued one, I don't think there was much of a standard as to how the others were finished.  I'm glad you like your gun, I really love mine!  Check a couple of the other threads on Hy Hunter, or Sauer (which became Sig-Sauer then Sig) or Hawes, they were all made by Sauer and imported by different people.  Enjoy that gun!  44 Man

Yep, they made several models. Western Marshall, Montana Marshall, Texas Marshall and Chief Marshall. They are very well made guns. I have the Chief Marshall .357 and mine has a brass trigger guard and backstrap like the Montana Marshall. Only one I've seen like it. It may be someone changed it or ordered it that way.
