30 carbine handi(possible rechamber)
« on: February 23, 2013, 08:40:44 AM »
I have a stubbed 30 carbine handi. Nice gun but I have a 300 blackout also. It will do what the carbine will do and more. So What would you rechamber the carbine to?

Jason,

Get a hold of the Profino Gun Company, they rechamber Handi 30 carbines all the time. :o ;D

Seriously, I would leave it as is because the 30 carb. is a way better choice for light weight 30 cal. bullets.  The 300 BO chamber has a huge throat so you have bullet jump with almost all of the light to middle weight 30 cal. bullets.   The 300 BO is just a completely different animal, made for large for caliber boolits and subsonic speeds.

I agree with Tim, if you want something bigger that can be done on a 30-30 308 ect barrel why waste the little one for such project? I am sure you could sell the 30 carbine and finance your next one or at least a good way there.

I thought about selling it but it has a factory muzzlebrake on it. That would make it nice for whatever i rechamber to.

Jason,    I agree with those who say leave it a 30 carbine and sell it to someone who really wants a 30 carbine.
I know someone who has a couple of  7 mm barrels and know you need a 7 TCU to try.   ::)

+1 on the sell it off motion. but if you went obscure with the 300 h&h I have a ton of brass "some new norma case in box" I can't use.
I hate when i miss. But when I do, I can always come up with a reason why.

Jedman's idea of a 7mmTCU is a good one it is a great cartridge. It is on my list too.
How big is the outside of the rear of your 30 carbine barrel? That will have an influence on a re-chamber.You might even consider another 300 Blackout chambered and throated for the lighter bullets.
Lots of Luck

I would love to have a 30 carbine Handi (suffering from myfundsarelow right now tho). I say sell it to some lucky slob - the comment about barrel diameter (inside the stub) is a good one that could limit caliber choices for anyway....

Trying to trade it. No bites. Keep thinking its a toss up between the 7.62x39 or 30-30

Ive messed about with a lot of different calibers through the years and had issues finding brass for some, or affording it,  or too much trouble modifying brass for others. I concluded that whatever I mess with anymore (KISS, remember) should be relatively cheap and readily available brass. Bigger cases sure can be downloaded and I supect that 1:10 should make a dandy cast bullet shooter at sub-sonic on up. Bet Trail Boss would be great. Ive played with the idea of the 7.62x39 for just that myself; it should be a fine choice.
But still, I cant help but think a nice 30C barrel like that should have at least one buyer out here  ??? .
