Ruger Super Blackhawk SS 3.75'' 44 mag for my birthday!
« on: February 24, 2013, 01:25:52 PM »
Wow so my wife got me a Ruger #3 action and gave me the go ahead on its rebarrel but wait it gets better so I had a Ruger Talo 45lc birdshead in my hands but opted out because I need to work on the house and redoing my wife's kitchen new stove....blah...blah......just not the right time to get it. So she goes to the local gun shop, asked if they can get her the Talo Birdshead and the guy talks her into a special order gun that the guy did not finish paying for. So at breakfast she hands me a Ruger gun box and now I am the proud owner of a New Ruger Super Blackhawk SS 3.75" 44 mag. Wow it is great got to shot a box of 44 specials and man it's now my favort center fire pistol I own or have shot.

KEEP THAT WIFE!
Nice....so very nice  ;D .
Might I suggest you reload 44Mag cases with 44Spl. equiv. loads. It has always worked better for me in the longer chamber to fill it up with brass to ease that bullet jump to the cyl. throat.
And the knife is?

Good thing about that short barrel, with magnum loads if you miss what you're shooting at the muzzle blast will most likely set it on fire. ;D . That being said, you've got a fine looking pistol there.

Oh my wife, yes she's a keeper and not because of the gun. It does give her points. The knife is a Blind Horse Knifes Drover. It's what I carry everywhere. Its a small skinner and work knife losely based on a Nessmuk knife.
The ball of fire comming from the 44 specials was more than I expected. I am going to reload mag cases to a nice 44 specials load. Fun to shot and tore up my target. : )

My wife and I don't usually buy each other gifts, we skipped the last 5 years worth. Birthday and Christmas. But I cashed in my 401k to do our kitchen. Little did I know she had her own rainy day fund. I was not expecting any of it. She is a wonderful woman and good mother.

Ah, Blind Horse......now I remember going to their site; nice stuff.
I had a S&W 3", think it was a Lew Horton special 629 (44M) followed by a 4" 624 (44Spl.) for some years after having had the Maggies (probably should have kept those too!), both them and me liked the 6.5 up to the 7.5 gr of Unique (taking the suggestion of Skeeter) under the Lyman 429421 cast of mostly WWts. in the appropriate cases. The 6.5 was nice out to about 50yd, then fell off rapidly and the 7.5 fair snotty on out after that so I split the diff and mostly loaded 7.0gr. A lot of guys like hotter loads but those kicked everything I needed a big bore to kick.

I had a chance to check out the Talo Vaquero Birdshead in 45acp and liked it a lot; it must like me too 'cause its calling my name (update on this one, its mine!). Came home and grabbed my 4 5/8" Colt's clone 45C and, ya know, I really do like the traditional grip frame too. I had such good luck with my 44 cal. revolvers being easy to live with and load for that Id go for yours, for sure and certain.
Any more to report?

Sorry have been working 7days a week about to slow down to 6. Oh man I like this 44mag:) but, can't find brass, bullets, dies or supplies. Bidding on once fired brass as I type. I recived a 44mag reload book and just waiting for the supplies to come back around. I like it better than my Glock 21. The single action Ruger 44mag shoots straight and is fun till you run out of ammo.
