Need help identifying cannon.
« on: February 24, 2013, 01:54:52 PM »
I just bought this on ebay and I need help figuring out if this was made in large quantities or if it was a custom made piece.  It is highly detailed and I was happy to find it at a great price!  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I've never seen another like it.  The barrel is generally in the form of an 18th C. field howitzer.

Thank you for your responses.  I found an email the seller sent me after he sold it to me and I pasted it below.  Apparently the Miles that sold it to me is not the one that built the cannon.

They were custom made from scratch.
He put A # on each one under barrel.
Most had a number on trunnion also.
The number starts with "J"....not AJ
Could be part of his name?
I never found out who he was :(
The lady I got 14 of his cannons from told me he had passed away.
She got all his cannons....about 300 of them.
I was too late to get the really big ones on trailers etc.
I would guess he died 4-5 months ago.
She also said he went to Cannon shoots and he was in few books.
She sold all his stuff including 2 shops of tools cheep.
Like 2 full shops both wood working and metal working for $1,200
If she was closer I would have bought them.
Just tons of tools....lathes,drill press, shapers, Mills lots and lots
And chests of hand tools craftsmen and snap-on etc
Makes me sick thinking about all of it.
She is East coast :( He was Pa
Too far to go for me.
She was selling stuff before he was 6 foot under.....WOW
House and 2 shops all went cheep.
