whippersnappers!
« on: February 24, 2013, 02:55:54 PM »
We have had 10 to 12 inches snow today.  The neighbor usually gets out and shovels down to my ddrive when he does his, I do the same when I am the first up.  The neighbor on the other side is an older lady (not as old as I, though) with arthritis, her husband has to work out of town, so is not home.  So this a.m. we both did hers, usually I do it myself when hubby is gone.  Later today my son also did both mine and hers.  This evening I went to get the last pass before morning, when I got up to her window her son in law (30 more or less) was sitting at the dining table wearing bermuda shorts, no shoes, and doing some texting or whatever.  He did NOT make eye contact.  Since I have to go to work, have my own arthritis (some), it really chaps me.  I want to ask good old hubby about why the youngster can't help, too.  At about that age, I did mine, my GF and her dad's (now wife), both neighbors, her landlady, an old woman I know who lived in the 3rd home there, and the walks at a little meeting hall, then went to work by 6am.m.  It worked too; being steady made a better impression on my love than having a fancy car I couldn't afford.
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

I live in the suburbs, and have learned to mind my own business in my area. I've offered to help, and gotten reactions like it was clear the other person thought I was crazy. I've tried introducing myself to new neighbors and they don't care or want to strike up a conversation. It's increasingly a suburban minnesota thing. Have heard the same thing from others.

Another thing. We had some new neighbors move in not long ago and I was going to offer to clear their drive way because they may not have bought a snow blower yet. Then I stopped myself because I know tthey have snow mobiles, and all kinds of toys. So I figured they must have a smpnow blower. But they didn't. Hired the work out. Would be a twenty minute job with a blower.

c.t.l.  it's truly a shame to hear that
things are that way there too. i've
tried to help watch out for neighbors here
to no avail. too many section 8's and
border jumpers i guess. one neighbor,
elderly person with ex-con children
that won't move the wheeled garbage
container to the street for pick-up.
plenty of energy for running the streets
all night though, and no shortage of
funds for smokes and booze and new
tattoos.  learned to mmob here also.
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

We moved into a suburb division about a year and a half ago. We just moved back in the country.

I think it's a geographic thing. I don't know if it's like this in other places. I think it's more common in "bedroom communities" where people live just so they can go to work and have a place for the kids to go to school. I seldom get into any conversations around here with neighbors.

On the other hand, I frequent an area down South where a typical "good morning" salutation is a 40 minute conversation. Much more friendly and neighborly. I need to spend more time there. You really get to know and value people.

Well, a good snow fall is like having a block party around me. Everyone is out working and visiting.

I am one of those gone frequently. If I'm home I make it a point to do thew neighbors walks. When I'm gone he will catch mine. If I get behind I'll take a case of beer over, we seem to stay friends with this arrangement.
