tried something different tonight for case lube!

got tired of the mess and called my 75 year old uncle tonight and he used to reload in the late 60's and i asked him what he used back in those days, he said crisco all-vegetable shortening and it doesn't take much. so i had to try it.
decapped and full length resized a 100 .308 and 100 30.06 tonight NO mess this stuff is great. it does not take much. touched my cutip in it 9 times for inside the neck lube. will boil the brass tomorrow night in vinigar and water and oven dry on 200F for 2hr then tumble them.
worked for me and a lot less mess. had been using lee, RCBS and tried the sprays. i think i will stick with this for now it works for me. very slick and cheep.

Brings back memories,  -when I started muzzleloader hunting in the 70s we lubed our patches with Crisco.  Thanks for another idea.

I was using the rcbs case lube. I now use mink oil, yes the kind you put on your boots for water proofing them. I saw a gunsmith using it and ask him about it. He told me thats all he uses now. It take very little and is easily removed with a rag.

When I started reloading one of the alternate lubes we used was STP.  However, it was quite difficult to remove, and I found the more modern lubes were easier to use.  

I have used anhydrous lanolyn to lube my componets when swaging bullets, so I'm certain it would do a good job resizing cases - and it certainly doesn't take much to do the job.

Sound's interesting but I use Hornady One-Shot and love it. It is not messy and comes off real easy and will not contaminate powder or primers.  :lol:

I've been using floor paste wax for my 44-40's and had no problem.  It wasn't adequate to reform 30-06 into 8mm-06, had to go back to the RCBS lube that I've had for 15 years.

I have been using generic "pledge" wax spray recently instead of Hornady one shot. seems to work as well and costs $1.50 vs $9.00.

I used to use STP oil additive and now use Slick 50. I also use Ketchup for cleaning my brass. :grin:

I have stuck more cases behind Horn. one-shot so I quit using it.  I currently use "Pam" spray cooking oil.  Only problem is if you do not get them all resized, I have found that you should clean them up and re-lube them before resizing.
I only work in batches of 500 anymore and 10-second spray will more than cover 500-rnds.  Roll brass around a little and the oil will migrate.

I always tumble after sizing anyway, no matter which lube I use.

never had problems with one shot i use it all the time. One thing nice about it is that it wont cantaminate primmers or powder.

I've been using the Imperial sizing die wax for about ten years now. It works, and is cheap.

Put it on with your fingers, wipe it off with a rag......simple.

What more can be said?

PS: For inside neck lube, use mica.....stays dry, doesn't contaminate.

I have been using the old fashioned method with the lube pad and commercial lube. never had any problems with it so will stick with it. A little goes a long way I think some folks just use too much. Jim
