357 mag
« on: February 26, 2013, 06:09:32 AM »
after reading the answers from my last question i decided to first try a heavier bullet. i decided to try the hornady 140 ftx.  i looked at deferent forums and powder companies info plus reloading books.  my question is some say that you have to shorten the shell to 1.240"
while some say you don't have to. just the normal size.  who is right?   anyone reloading these
thanks

The only reason to shorten the brass is to reduce the length of the loaded cartridge, IF NEEDED.  If your loaded round is usable in your firearm with out doing so, use it full length.  The FTX bullets were made to use in a lever action with a tube feed, if loading in a handgun, that feature is not really needed.  DP

You don't gain anything using the 140 FTX in the.357. The B.C. is less than the 140 XTP. The S.D is the same.Main difference is the FTX cost more.
