The group I ride with have Suzuki's, Kawasaki's and Harley's. All are nice bikes and I am sure they are exactly what the owners expect them to be. I ride a Harley because that's what I want to ride. I enjoy the way it looks, rides and especially how it sounds. The one thing that usually aggravates the guys is that every time we pull into a parking lot for a break. The large majority of people that walk over comment on the Harley's. There is just something that draws people attention to them.
This is my 2004 Road King Custom. I can't wait for spring to get here so I can ride.

Nice bike, I get a lot of compliments on mine. The funniest thing is most think it looks and sounds like a Harley. Many don't seem to know the difference.

Jap bikes don't sound anything like a Harley and there's a lot of difference. Folks put loud pipes on them and remove all the tank and sidecover markings (to hide the fact that it's not a Harley) but all they have is a loud jap bike with no markings.

one can look at the engine and
drivetrain and running gear and
tell a hd from a japanesey.
doesn't matter to me.
if you ride with us with loud pipes,
you go to the back or go home.
some parks don't allow motorcycles
now because of that.

Well, I think both of you missed my point but, for different reasons. I was talking about folks that don't really know that much about bikes.
As you can tell in the pic I haven't tried to "disguise" my bike into "looking" like anything but, what it is.

If that was true, why would HD have sued Kawasaki some years ago over the rights to a particular sound? I guess if Swampy had been the judge HD would have been thrown out of court and possibly been charged with bringing forth a frivolous suit.

You know, the one that I haven't been on since July...

I got it 'cause back in '03 I needed a bike, I bought the LC1500 on a whim (not to mention it was so cheap I couldn't NOT buy it!), and Kathie said I could buy another Harley after she got a new house.

Well, she's had her house for 7 years and I still ride, or did, the zuki!

But that bike really changed my mind about jap bikes!

Now I'm not saying that my next bike wouldn't be a Harley based springer or bober solo bar hopper don't cha know!

If you want to attract a crowd nearly every time you stop try riding a Moto Guzzi, especially an older one. People just come out of the woodwork when you stop. What is amusing is when people keep repeatably asking you who makes the bike even after you tell them.

The extra umpty-thousand dollars for a Harley, is the Club Membership fee. That's what you're paying for... it surely isn't performance or modern technology.

First (and only) Harley I rode was an early-seventies Electra Glide, when I was 16. I still can't believe the guy let me ride it (at the time, I was on a KZ400).

I'd like to try an H-D sometime... something that my sweetie would be comfortable on. I like the idea of an engine that looks like two cylinders from an R-1830. Until then... I'll have to make do with a 140hp do-everything bike that is comfortable, stunningly fast with razor-sharp handling, and stone-reliable (26,000 valve adjust intervals)

Dee,come over and ride my 2012 Goldwing,and I'll garantee you'll throw rocks at a any Harley. I read awhile back that to be classified as made in America,its parts had to be 60%made in America. Harleys were 62% Honda Goldwings from 2010 and back were 80%in America. Get your self a road bike and go with me in June for a 5000 mile 2 wk ride. If you have a windshield on that 1600 it'll do fine.

Thanks for tha call Ditchdigger, I had pretty much figured'em out and they called me 3more times today. I made'em a offer for what this "latest" bike was actually worth, so Im thinking they won't call anymore. They keep changing the rules on how the bikes are valued. I'm gonna stay with the rice burners.

Harleys of the past 10-20 years or so have plenty of the modern technology. Things like electronic ignition, fuel injectiion and belt drive have done much to improve reliability and performance. Take a Screaming Eagle Harley with 110 inch motor for a ride and you will experience more performance than imagined. They still are not the fastest. If I wanted high performance, I would get a Suzuki Hayabusa.

Your right Cheese. The Japanese electronics, fuel injection, and lighting, HAVE improved the Harley performance, and reliability.

Now if we could just get some to admit it, and realize we are all the same when comes to riding.

I doubt you can Cheese. I talked to a guy a while back that critized me for buyin Linda a new Honda Pilot instead of an "American made" car. I told him American auto companys should build better cars.
A guy I went to school with is a die hard Harley rider. He saw my bike at the local cafe, came for coffee and said: don't expect me to ride with that jap bike. I told him I didn't want to ride with him either, but it didn't have anything to do with the bike he rode.
By the way. The other guy drove a Chevy 1 ton with a forigen Diesel engine in it.

Really don't know about the mistique, or any of the other stuff, but have rode just about every brand. Lived in Europe for 5 yrs and so rode a few that will never be seen here in the US. Last scoot was an early model Vulcan 1500 bought new. My scoot now is a 97 Heritage classic. Has 18k mile on it and only cost about 8k... Nice riding bike, and brings folks in to talk about her, where my Kawi and Wing never did.

What ever you get, just enjoy the ride and all the rest will fade away... Call it motorcycle therapy.

yes ranger99 it had stock dual amal concentrics on it.it was kinda weird.didnt always like to charge the battery tho.i guess you can thank mr lucas, otherwise known as the" prince of darkness" for that.if you even know what that means then you spent too much time on a trumpet.
