You know that was funny at the ladies expence but the reality is for home defense a good shotgun is very workable .

Farm and ranch also , a good shotgun is a very versatile tool to have around. I leave mine loaded
with four shot because it seems to be able to take care of about anything that arises.
Benelli Nova tactical with the mag extension the polymer receiver and furniture are maintenance
free . Hay Joe its a valuable tool out here and goes with me everywhere like a pocket knife and a
mag light . My bad guys can slither on the ground or they have four legs but they are a very real
thing to watch out for. Cougars have been a problem in the past , but a shot in the air usually takes
care of them . It's the rabid dogs that have been dumped in the country by city people that are a
big problem at times . And they are sneaky and they know the movements of people .

They can come up on you so fast you don't have time to think about it or do a lot of aiming.
Coyotes are quick and they will eat about anything including a dog . Buzzards will attack anything
even if it isn't sick and they become a real problem during the summer months . I've seen them
gang up on and kill a full grown goat before and their not afraid to come into a barn .
I haven't had any trouble out of the Mexican wolves they get the blame for the damage all the other
critters cause . They are more like the Indians in an old western movie .
They just do a lot of watching from the hilltops they prefer the bunnies and they are not risk takers .

If they do come around its usually because they want a drink of water from the run off of my stock
tanks . I like to photograph them especially when they have their winter coats .
Bunnie and rabbit control is a very good thing because they tear up everything and bring in unwanted
guest . Dogs are mostly a deterant and a patrol animal , its the shot gun that that takes care of
business when its needed .

Good points Anna. I keep one close also. Snakes , good point I ended the year killing 7 copperheads within 20 feet of my home. Crows in the garden , yotes the list goes on.
The sight of a shotgun is often enough to stop an attack. True story , back in the early 80's A firend and I would ride down to the coast and pier fish all night. We got off from work about 330 and would head down about 6 in the evening . It was abot 2 hours to a good fishing pier. Well we are going down the interstate , I'm in the left lane , We have the windows down. Keep in mind both of us are plumbers/pipefitters. This guy pulls up along side in a small car we are in a truck . He points a really little pistol at us and says pull over . Well back then we had about 16 inches of 3/4" steel pipe on the seat for protection. My buddy slips the end of it between his arm and the window frame . The guy jerks the sterring wheel , loses control and hits a curb bounces over it tearing up the under side of his car and comes to a stop aginst the pillars of a bridge . He gets out and salutes us with one finger. We caught a ton of fish also.

My daughter found a real steal on a mint CZ semi auto shotgun. The recoil is quite soft and she has gotten into shooting clays. We loaded it up with some #4 buckshot and showed her what it would do to flesh and bone (rancher down the road put down a sick sheep.... after it was down we put some buck into it for her to test the stronger recoil).

It is a shame that the guys shooting the videos took advantage of the inexperience of some of the females....it may have turned them off of wanting to learn how to use a valuable life saving tool.

Yup snakes mostly , I killed five rattles last year . And usually when you come up on a rattler or it
comes up on you all you want to do is get rid of it .
Badgers are very aggressive and I had to take down two of them also .
Black bears are no problem they are like drunks and you can chase them off with a pole .
But a real live Couger face to face is a sobering experience and not being armed is the last thing you
want to be with them . I've lost two dogs down through the years to cougars dragging them off .
They are Lions no matter what the PC crowd wants to call them and California has a long history
of them attacking humans . And you don't have to provoke them either , if they think you are scared
they will come at you .

Those CCI shot shells have been very effective against rattlers also. The 1911 can be more convent to carry at times.

I agree with all the above!

I NEVER let a novice shooter make a fool of themselves or risk getting hurt ... I ALWAYS do all I can to make their first shooting experience not be their last.

But what I take away from this is that as bad as AR's and ilk are demonized, which weapons system hurts on the wrong end.

The bulk of the shooters, male or female will by demographics fall closer to the newbies shooting in this video .......

......... it's scarry, but a fact.

Maybe I got up and out of bed on the wrong side today, I see nothing funny when women or youngsters for that matter are given shotguns/rifles to fire that are either to long in the stock or not taught proper stance. That would also include large cal handguns.
Are these male dipwads trying to discourage their womenfolk from shooting?? Looks to me they have done that allright.

Up here I haven't seen any type of Defender shotguns in less then 12 gauge. I keep thinking I had seen them in 20 gauge or even 410 caliber in the USA.

I use a hoe to kill snakes. Bad dogs, or the occasional cat? What evers loaded, which is usually a black 1100 Remington I built years ago for fightin.

Yup - and the Humpback design is because it came from the Master himself - John Moses Browning. Stevens bought the patent rights for it in 1903. JMB was truly a genius.

I'm not clear on your remark about Granny and the 410.
IMO that would be the perfect shotgun if it came with a short barrel. I don't keep up with scatterguns as a whole, so is there such a thing as a 410 auto banger??

Remington has both auto loader and pump action .410 shotguns . BUT for granny Mossberg has a pistol grip .410 pump with a extension on the muzzle end of the bbl that makes it look like a 12 ga. I would feel a standard stock could replace the pistol grip it needed.

I'll stick with my Stoeger double 410. The wife has shot it, the grandchildren.....no one has complained. At room distance with the new defense ammo, it would be ugly on the receiving end.

I really can't get exicited about the .410 revolvers . They are like Rancheros or El Camenos they are a comprise.

It thought so too until I shot this S&W, it will shoot 45 long colt, 45 ACP, and shotshells inthe same cylinder, and is deadly at 50 yards. It will holster, or fit in my back pocket. MHO

Weren't those usually an Ithaca model 37 riot or the model 12 equivalent ?
I think the double action thing or as some call it recoil action was a big plus for use in VN.
I had one of the Ithaca's once and I liked it a lot , but I gave it to my brother years ago .

No there were several brands used in VN . It seems differen't branches of the military used different shotguns remember it was only 20 years after WW2 where any shotgun was pressed into service. I had a 16 ga mod. 12 that was used by the Army in WW2 . It was a guards gun at Fort Lee. Back to the Stevens , there was a program that interviewed guys that had served in VN and one was into some very close in fighting behind enemy lines he operated from a small river boat. I can't remember what he was doing but his weapon was a Stevens shotgun . He had a hard time finding one for personal use after getting out of the military. The program showed pictures of him with the gun while in VN.
