My New (sorta) Rig

I ended up with an Orvis Access Mid-Arbor II and a St. Croix Imperial 2 piece 5-6wt 8'6" rod from a second hand store.

If you're fishing graphite there isn't a thing wrong with a St. Croix Imperial.  I very rarely fish graphite these days but I'm not selling my Imperial.......yet.

I like St. Croix rods because some of them are Made in USA.  I have several.

i have one or two somewhere.
i have to admit i don't look where they're
made anymore. if they aren't broken and
the guides are sano and it's the action
i want and priced right it goes with me.
most of the second hand ones are usually
priced right. most times i buy a good rod
with a junk reel on it, or the reel is what
i want and have to buy the junk rod with
it to get the reel. i liked the old eagle claw
rods way back when. i think all the new ones
are taiwan now.
at least the cast-off second hand rods make
good tomato stakes ;D

I have a 9' 6 weight Saint Croix and enjoy it very much. It is made in Park Falls Wisconsin not far from where I live.

swampman, do you tie your own flies also?i used to years ago when i was fly fishing a lot.i can still whip up a mean wooly worm, herl bug or black ant for trout fishing.its a very rewarding and cheap hobby if yu can scavenge fur and feathers.

its actuatlly pretty easy to tie a few basic patterns.yull need a cheap vise,sum thread and beeswax.lead wire for sinking flies.sinking flies is what yu will tie the most.and feathers and fur from animals and birds.the best part is you can use your imagination to tie lots of flies that will catch tons of fish.i took a class when i was a kid from a old fly fisherman.chek out yu tube
