I thought the "National Guard" was supposed to protect the "homeland". Guess not, huh?
I think there were a coupla changes in the definition of the reserves, one under Nixon in '73 and another under Bush in '07 that made the state reserves more like regular army, whereas the President or congress can call on them to perform duties outside our country, where before that they didn't. They became a part of the DOD which deals with military operations abroad. DHS was initiated by Bush to protect private citizens in our country from threats of terrorism. Later on, still under Bush, it was reorganized to help during times of national emergencies such as man-made or natural disasters and to help with immigration and border control.
That anyone would claim these targets were designed by DHS to ready their personnel to attack innocent civilians for no reason is hilarious. First off, the manufacturers states it was LEOs that first requested them for desensitization. The case in point being......anyone pointing a firearm at a uniformed police officer with their finger on the trigger is a threat, period. Age, sex, race is moot. While it is not a pleasant thought, it is the truth. To go a step farther and use them as terrorist targets is not far fetched. Anyone here really think terrorists are not gonna disguise themselves as innocents? When was the last time a terrorist dressed up as an obvious terrorist before implementing an act of terrorism? In the mid-east women and children are used as suicide bombers all the time. Those in Vietnam were exposed to this also. I for one, have a real hard time envisioning the same dedicated folks(police, our military and members of DHS) that put their lives on the line everyday to protect our rights, will violate those rights the next day for some mystical reason and go on a spree killing innocent civilians. I give them more credit than that. I have more faith in them than over-zealous internet posters wearing tin foil hats.
This is not being left or right. This is being realistic.
