Hmm, . . . here is something else to check.
As I understand it, you tested a brand new rifle, using handloads. You experienced extraction problems and are wondering whether you might have a defective rifle.
How did it shoot with factory fresh Remington ammo? Any extraction problems? That's the very very first thing I check with any rifle.
Many many years ago, when I use to handload, I loaded up some medium light 7mm Mag, following exactly the specs in the reloading manual. I had no underdstanding of the fact that light loads create the same risk, or more, of generating dangerously high pressures as some of the top end loads.
When I fired these handloads in my Remington 700, I had real extraction problems. Thought it was the rifle, since a few years earlier I had broken an extractor in a 700. Then I started looking at the cases and the face of the bolt. Primers raised out the back of the shell, and sheared-off brass flakes all over the bolt face. It was the handloads, not the rifle.
I would replace the extractor of the rifle, and then re-test it with Remington factory Core-Lokts. You may be surprised. Maybe no need to ship the whole thing back to Remington, who by the way does not warrant that their rifles will be suitable for any type of handloads at all.
Hope this helps.
