Contender/Encore Barrel Info:
« on: February 18, 2004, 11:20:42 AM »
I have a 16 inch Encore pistol barrel that I want to put an iron sight in front of the scope mount base.  The Encore barrel where the sight/scope base mount is .995 in dia. The dia. were I want to mount the sight in front of the base is .800 dia. My question is what is the dia. of the Contender barrel base. I want to buy a Contender pistol rear sight if the dia. is close to the .800. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Ron.

The contender barrel if its a straight bull barrel is .806 in dia. Give or take. Your encore barrel where you want to put it should be tapered. But if it fits well enough I don't see where that would be much of a problem as long as it doesn't feel like it will want to rock from side to side.  KN

If I understand you correctly, you're going to have to drill & tap some holes. You could just re-contour the sight base with some emery paper, and a slightly smaller dowel rod. Don't forget to use a FEW drops of JB Weld between the sight base, and the barrel. That should make for a solid mount. A little heat will make the JB turn loose, should you ever want to remove it.
Williams makes some pretty nice rear sights, that come in varoius sizes. They are aluminum, and would be easy to re-contour, if it is necessary.

Just curious:  What caliber is your barrel?

I can vouch for the Williams rear sights.  They will cover a wide range of elevation that you can't get with standard TC sights.
