Now a .357 Max with 16.5 barrel and trigger job.  I put a Redfield 3-9X on it for load development.  Come hunting season, it will wear a Weaver V-3 for the woods.  As soon as the dies come in, I will work up some loads and post a range report.

You're going to like it.  The shortie Maxis shoot like a marriage between a laser and the Hammer of Thor.  Accuracy is excellent and I am not noticing any loss of velocity in our 16.5s.  The 180 SSP and XTP are running 2150 fps.

I'm using Lil' Gun just now.  I've got 1680, but haven't loaded it yet.  I think it'll do about the same.

I found some Lil Gun and loaded up some ammo with 158 and 125 jacketed bullets.  The load that I started with is more accurate than the shooter.  When it warms up in a couple of weeks, I will start experimenting with loads and set up the chrony.

The Maxi and 180 grain bullets are a good marriage.  My 2 cents, I'd stick with the 3x9 and get a lower set of rings.  The Maxi is a 200 yard deer gun with practice.

for a 200yd gun, anything over 3x is way overscoped.

unless your shooting for group, a 200yd gun does as fine with irons as it does with a scope.

Unless you have a giraffe neck, those rings are definitely too high... I have a buddy that uses Ultra high rings though, he says it is the only way he can get a good weld... but I have noticed he has no problem shooting my low mounted scoped guns... so? In general it is better to get your sight line as close to the bore as possible.

Those rings are some el-cheapos taken off a trade.   They are some brand of see throughs that always appeared kind of un necessary to me.  I have Warne and Weavers on order.
I need to find a new place to hunt deer.  I have a stand on my sister's place in AR.  For the last several seasons the meat deer I have killed were at ranges of 5 to 20 yards.  After a while, huting deer on that stand is about as exciting as a trip to the butcher shop.  Last year I had to cancel a trip where I was going to back up a long time chum.  I would carry the gun while he speared pigs.  Not sure I am tough or spry enough to chase dogs and feral pigs though swamps.
