Guys I'm opening this one up for use. Perhaps I shouldn't but I've got more yes votes here to open it than I have votes in the other poll to not split the single forum into multiples. Let's just see if it gets used by all of you wanting it.

And thanks are in order to you as well Mr. Graybeard. I really appreciate the environment on your site. I enjoy the company and conversation and feel as if the guys who are 2500 miles away are sitting in the camp around the fireplace with me and telling old tales over a pan of biscuits and a plate of deer steak.

I had signed onto Greybeard Outdoors a few months prior to NEF/H&R Talk folding up. When that site went down there were many of us that didn't know how to get in contact with each other or where we would make our new home. One day the site was there, the next day it wasn't. I was very pleased to find out that Bill was going to give us a new place to congregate. A new place to call home. Little by little many of the guys from that old site filtered in here and stayed. We were then and are now a group of friends that for the most part have never met each other, but share a love of hunting and shooting Handi rifles. I for one am very grateful to Bill and all those that make this place so special to all of us. To celebrate this anniversary and show my appreciation, I did something I've been wanting to do for a while now and signed up for a Supporter subscription.
THANKS!!

Appreciation from Fincastle, VA!  I'm fairly new here, but I'm stayin'.  It is absolutelhy the most informative thread on H&R firearms available anywhere.  From new guns to old guns, from factory ammo to handloads, nothing has been left unexamined.  It's a reference point for anyone in the world who wants to know anything about Handi rifles and what they shoot.  Personally, I plan to behave, and obey the rules, because to get booted from here would be a horrible failure on my part.  I sign in to some other forums that feed my several obsessions, but nowhere do I find such respectful and polite posts.  Everyone here seems genuinely interested in providing the best of their experiences.  I've learned more here than anywhere else, and always, the threads and posts are respectful and helpful.  Look on any other Internet site catering to a special interest, and you won't see this kind of personal help.  There is a kinship here that a memeber can count on.  Speaking just for myself, I'm home.  And Tim, thank you. You make it possible.

Boy talk about bring back up a "Golden Oldie" this one really is. The truly remarkable thing is that other than 10ga. all those folks who posted to it back in 2004 are still here and still active.

Back when Marlin shut down the Marlin Talk and NEF Talk forums there were around 20,000 folks who were left without a home so to speak. The suddeness of the shutdown didn't leave a lot of time for folks to develop a plan of action on staying together so they were kinda scattered to the four winds.

At the time we were one of the larger general interest sites around and had been up and running for a good 7 years already at that time. I got requests from folks from both the Marlin and the NEF Talk forums to set up a similar set of forums here for them that they had on Marlin's site. I had such requests before from members of sites being closed down and never had any of them done more than use this site as a gathering spot to discuss where their new home would be then they moved on.

So it was with some reluctance I agreed to give both a chance to proof the folks were willing to actually come here and post. The Marlin folks proved rather fickle and really did scatter to the four winds and even today there is no one place that can say they got any major percentage of that traffic. Some special sites were set up just to accomodate them such as the Marlin Owner's site which has already changed hands and is still in operation hosted by us but no one site got even 10% of them as far as I can tell.

Several of us site owners set up forums for both the Marlin and NEF foks that had basically the same set of forums Marlin had offered. Most of us pretty quickly abandoned the Marlin forums as there just wasn't enough traffic to keep them open.

But here at least the NEF crowd found a home they liked and stayed and it continues to draw more and more handi holics each day. If you watch the new member introduction forum you'll see a lot of new comers saying they came here for the info on the handi rifles.

What amazes me most I guess is that even today the manufacturers of the rifles refuse to recognize the value of this place to them and how a sponsorship of it could result in even more sales and brand loyalty. You'd be amazed at how many folks either call me via phone or e-mail me tho saying the factory sent them to me (not to the GBO site mind you but to me personally) to answer their questions on the guns they make. They do know we're here but sure won't invest in advertising here.

I honestly don't even recall this particular thread it was so long ago. I seem to vaguely recall we were in the decision making process at the time regarding just how many forums we'd set up for the NEFs and what the subject matter of them would be. I'm assuming this one was the result of a decision to have both centerfire and rimfire forums but as I say it's been too long to recall specifically what brought this thread about.

I wonder if the manufacturer has any idea as to how much sales this site generates ? pretty dumb if they don't. this site has turned me into one of those Handi-holics I picked up my first handi rifle since the old Topper ones at a gun show, traded a Tokarev 54 pistol for it... turned out to be one of the best trades I made all year. came to this site looking for information and am now here more than any other. I am looking for my next rifle and am in the process of building one from parts I bought on this site. that's part of the fun of it. I think they should sponsor it , but hey, they get it for free now so..................

One of the things that really surprised me about Marlin Talk and NEF/H&R Talk shutting down was the fact that at that time those forums sold more guns for their companies than any advertising at any cost. Well the same surely holds true for this site with respect to H&R today. I'm sure if buyers were asked, most would say they were influenced by information they were able to gain here.
