Ed is a stand up guy and I have delt with him for a number of years in selling to him as well as buying from him, I always thought that the deal was more than fair for both of us.

Bought four different Encore barrels from Ed in the last two weeks.  A 17 HMR 15 inch stainless, a 30 Carbine 15 inch stainless, a 9 mm 10 inch bull, and a 45 ACP 10 inch bull.  Was very satisfied with my treatment and will probably deal with Ed again.

Ed is and always has been a straight shooter.

One of my last great deals from him... a set of four top of the line JDJ's before I mounted scopes (so just added some for interest).   Missing in the picture is the 12 T'SOB rings for them he also got/sent separate to mount scopes.

Yep, great guy.

And I thought I had some nice stuff. The one pic of yours that really got me was your 17 HMR fancy stocked carbine from Fred with Las Vegas in the back ground. You win I can't top any of your stuff. Thanks for sharing the pics with us I enjoy them.

Jon,

Thanks for your kind words.  I'm glad some enjoy the pictures for what they are.   Haven't had great luck with digital cameras, no matter what they cost despite excellent luck with film cameras from a young age.  ;)

Luck gets the real credit for having everything I've had.   Met/married a woman I shouldn't have even met at the exact right time who put up with me for nearly 35 years; I wanted to be successful for her so we could buy anything we ever wanted and was; born with a good eye for quality so sought out those who offered the very best; befriended many of them - some so much so they offered me from their private stashes.... IOW, just had more than my fair share of good luck in my life.

Ed really came through for me on this four barrel set, almost unshot from a collection, and as a package deal for an unbelievable price considering what they were selling for new pushing $600-$650 each.

The prototype 17 Hummer Fred built for me was actually his idea.  He called and asked me to do it as not only a long time close friend, but one who had been stricken with TC's Contender almost from their very start, who he thought was a best choice to field test the new catridge for Hornady on flesh well before it was finalized for release.  He also knew I had a bunch of Jim Henry frames... the very best there is.   Quite an honor, one that couldn't be ignored so he got an immediate yes.   Was also his idea to make it special exhibition grade to fit me exactly from the very little of that rare wood he had in his private stash.  Together the new set of reamers to give it a serious "tight" match chamber was figured out, and that made it even more special.  It's still one of the most accurate Hummer's ever made if not the the most ever.   Typically he did it all for a givenaway price for me, and the wait was very short.  Almost too short - I had to drive north a couple of hours to the southern range limit of Beldings for the acid test at longer range on the smallest game possible that early in the year.   Very few were up at that elevation, still some snow, but I found enough, and plenty of jackrabbits.   200 yards was child's play, shot/DRT count dead even.  At my annual Digger Wars shoot I hosted about 3 months later way north, 200 yards wasn't even a good stretch of the legs for it on even the years new crop of young Belding's.   I'm very pleased the gent I eventually sold it to bought it for his young grand daughter who will grow up with it, hopefully use it all her life with more barrels for any type of hunting.

Larry, I've got to agree with the Fox, that pic of the little hummer is the cream of the crop ever posted on GBO, and that's saying something with the great bunch of photos we've been blessed with.  I still drool every time I see that hummer....Thanks again for sharing!!!  Hope and pray you're as well and perky as you sound ;) .

Larry,

Thanks a million for sharing with us. Luck has really smiled at me also and I know it.

I grew up just an Iowa farm boy and graduated from High School in the mid sixtys. Dad offered to send me to the University of Iowa, instead a couple of months later I joined the Army. I don't think he ever forgave me for that. It was the greatest adventure of my life. Got out in 69 and married my wife that summer. I still helped at the farm and managed to get a job at the local Caterpillar dealer. That job lead to customers that befriended me opening a lot of doors. It was nothing to hop in one of their planes and fly out to a steak house in another state for super. I'm still good friends with those that are still alive.

As a farm boy I shot from the beginning. Pheasants were thick and I often shot my limit of three birds without taking a step in the canary grass. Fox were my favorites then. Now the pheasants are almost extinct and I enjoy seeing a fox so much I couldn't shoot one. Thirteen line ground squirrels are my favorite target these days.

My wifes side of the family are all shooters and had the connections & friendships with the firearms industry. My Brother-In-Law had a friend that went on to found Hunter Specialties a local company. It was my B-I-Ls pic on their early packaging.

My love of cars and Corvettes had me join the NCRS 30 years ago which opened another door of friends.

All of the stuff is still sitting here. The two cylinder John Deeres, a GTO with 16K miles thats never been in the rain, my corvette, and all the other stuff. The farms are now in the city limits and a lot of my hunting hot spots are covered with buildings. I certainly don't want to come across as boastfull to anyone here, it's just a reflection of luck and friendships. My wife has cancer now so I'm hoping for a little luck left on he behalf.

Wishing you the best out there in Nevada.

Well to continue the high jack... lets call it an excuse to again state that being a customer of Ed usually also becomes a great friendship as well.   :)

Walt,
There are lots of very special firearms out there, many currently under ownership of folks here.   I've seen lots here I would have had loved to have owned myself, was glad they at least shared them with us here.  While you and I never had the chance to spend quality time together in person, which I would have enjoyed very much, it sure has been quality time here with you and many other folks I've shared at least private long distant time with, and others I didn't except on the forum.  You and I share the love for the old Contender's, and lots of other things so it was an easy friendship.  If I appear "perky" I guess because I am happy and content with my life despite what it is now.  Everyday is a new adventure, maybe not much of one to most folks, but better than the alternative and enough for me. Trust yours is as well pard, I hope so.

Jon,
Thanks for the history.   We're cut from the same log in many ways, mine born/raised on a ranch, joined the Navy soon after graduation close to the same time, have always had muscle cars, etc, etc, etc.   And what i said about my time with Walt is the same with you.   I miss not driving my Stingray anymore, miss most of the firearms I have now sold, not hunting or even shooting anymore, not being able to go to the places again in nature and otherwise that were always favorites.  But they can never be taken away from me in my mind and heart as long as I still have them in working order.    ;)

Agree... as we all three know (as well as many other folks here as well), none of it is boastful, just relating and sharing from long experience what being lucky enough to be able to do or have in your life, especially friends/family, the yardstick of life that really matters.   When you get old, have health issues, even if with no family or few friends left, it doesn't matter if you don't have the material things anymore, can't do what you once could.  It's the memories never forgotten that makes the latter years not only tolerable, but maybe some of your best.
