300 is way too high.  Tell them to sharpen their pencil.  Without a scope, it's not worth more than 250 depending on what it is stocked with.  I bought a near mint 22-250 a short time ago with a Tasco scope, see thru rings and a lam stock for 250.

well cheap is a relative statement, yes $300 is a little high but if ya shop around you can find a cheaper deal.as far as better that depends on what ya want.i have an older 157 30-30 with full length fore arm great to carry around.got a 45-70bc a few months back and couldn't be happier.stopped at a pawn shop last week saw a newer 30-30 in good shape for $200,if it is still there this week i think i will have to have it! i think i am addicted!

Yah, but paying more doesn't always get you more either.  ;)  My cheap guns shoot groups like this .31 c-c from the .223.

My LGS has a bunch of new .30/30's for $269 up here in Canuckistan... should be cheaper down there...

who would that be?

around here you can't find them.  Everyone is sold out, and backordered.

I had to buy mine used.

and as for pricing, it's weird but ours are often cheaper than the US

I laughed when our dollar was so low, I thought Americans would be buying up our guns like crazy.  An automatic 33% discount!

the retail prices are the same usually, but the US has sales where we seldom do.

WSS had 357mag handies on awhile back for $229 each. I was going to buy 4, and they had them in stock, but I had a breakdown in the field and needed the cash!

but for a 30-30, I don't consider $300 to my door excessive at all.

Epps had them for $269 last fall... I bought one in October on a Cabela's special for $240 TMD... just checked Cabela's and they show that they are backordered now... but they had them on sale at Christmas... which was the last time I checked... I bought two from them in 2012. We know how tough distribution is here in Canada, but they should not have the same problem (to the degree that we do) south of the border... I am sure there are online vendors that can do better than $300 in the US.

Not realy sure what you are trying to say. I don't like to spend any more than one should for something, than I should. I did luck out and find a new Encore 30-30 barrel with scope rail and rings to but on my frame for $175.00. I came out far ahead.

You're the one that said it.  The guys here were trying to give you honest pricing for an economical rifle that will shoot better than most shooters can.  You are free to find something "better" but, 300 is still a little high for a used handi.  Glad you found you're encore barrel, hope you like it.  I have contenders that cost way more than my handi's, they are a long way from being better, just different.

I gusse they realy are cheap guns. I'll just buy something a little better.

Was in my local Wal-Mart early this week.  There were two handis on the rack, the first time I had seen any there in the nearly year and a half I have been there. The plastic stocked one was a .223, the wooden stocked one was a 30-30 priced at $264.  Right next to it was a Remington model 770 30-06 with a 3x9 scope for $297.

I'll take a handi rifle over a 770 or 710 any day.

I hate when i miss. But when I do, I can always come up with a reason why.

Cheap and inexpensive are two different words. A handi is inexpensive in price but far from cheap in quality.

My .30-30 Handi is my favorite rifle.  Perfect balance.  Topped with a 2-7 VX-II with fine hairs.

If my old eyes can spot it, the Handi can take it.

I'd put $500 down that I can take 5 ping pong balls with 5 shots at 100 yds using factory Federal 150's.

Likely you wont find one that cheap again, though (iffn yer luck is like mine). So there you'll be, cruisin' through the racks and see one for $225 or $250 and say to yourself,"I'll wait until it comes down to $200"............

There are always new and used handis around my area for sale. Ive found some great deals 250 for a BC 45-70, 320 for a nib CR classic and a bunch of others. BUT the ONLY 30-30 ive come across new or used was a model 158 combo gun with 20 ga barrel for 250...I passed it on twice and went back to get it. Needless to say it was gone. :(
