FWIW, the 38-55 can be 'problematic'. It is a cartridge dating back to pre-SAAMI standards and one really needs to have some experience with it to know how to avoid issues when spec'ing it out.. The 375 Win. would be much less so if one must have something similar.

Didn't know that 38-55's were finicky. Is anyone in love with either of the other two?
Always wanted a Whelen but the 405 sounds like fun too.

Why would you rebore to an available caliber? Just buy a .35 Whelen and rebore to something that you can't get.

Barrel weight and length may be a few reasons. I have always wanted to rebore a 24" fluted varmint barrel to 35 Whelen.

Thanks, Dinny

That's why I have a 26" BC. I didn't want a 22" 45-70. So I chopped and crowned a 32" BC.

Traditionally 38-55s have issues to deal with SAAMI spec'd chambers are usually too tight to chamber bullets big enough to shoot cast bullets well, particularly H&R 38-55 Targets, I've had four of them, still have two, all with the same problem. But if you were having one made, you could eliminate the issue by having it done so it would work well without the work arounds required for factory rifles, IE neck reaming in particular or having custom jacketed bullets made.

Ellwood Epps, LeBaron's, Cabela's Canada (used to be SIR - Sidney I. Robinson, in Winnepeg) etc... check around, you can get anything you want, sometimes you will have to search harder and wait longer.
