exercising the right to bear arms mean breaking the law? In the north Georgia city of Nelson, that may be the case if a proposed ordinance, requiring every "head of household to own and maintain a firearm," is passed. The city councilman, Duane Cronic, argued that relying on sheriffs isn't sufficient. "It's a deterrent ordinance," he said.

I remember when the ban on firearms passed in Morton Grove, IL and in response, Kennesaw,GA passed an ordinance requiring every head of household to own a firearm....as history proved, Morton Grove didn't experience lower firearm related crime, but Kennesaw did!

Logic never goes out of style..... ;D

I would have to take exception to that statement as it is UNTRUE! Logic has been out of style for decades in Washingon D.C.

I'm thinking Cartersville, Georgia already does require it.

Aw c'mon Dee!  Cut me a little slack!!!!  Washington D.C. has long been known as the earthly "black hole" of logic!!!!  If you visit, you have to guard your logical thoughts and prevent them from forming lest they be sucked out of your head and into the void!   The most you can hope for is deciding to have Blue crab for lunch, or dinner...... ;)

It's largely symbolic. There is no attempt to enforce the Kennesaw law. However it is a good gesture. rp

I doubt it would be enforceble if tested, however, it is in fact a great statement by the city. a few years back a town in Louisiana did the same crime dropped drasticly after the law was passed. In all cases where this has happened crime rates fell a considerable amount.
Proveing what gun owners know, crooks will look for the weak unarmed persons to rob or rape. If the think there is a chance you are armed they will most certainly look for easier prey.
