Tamer 20 ga ??
« on: March 08, 2013, 02:20:30 AM »
Is the Tamer 20 ga useful for more than HD and pests?  It looks neat, but is it just a short range gun?

What can you envision doing with a single shot shotgun that could not be done with this gun ? The only changes I would make would be to put the regular adult stock on it. Mine wears a red laminate adult size straight stock. Absolutely fantastic little walking around gun..

Correction to the above. Probably not the ideal trap gun.

I have a Tamer and love it. Great with slugs and the stock works just fine with my short fat arms!  ;)

I can't imagine "keeping house" without my Tamer 20.  It's stocked with Choate coventional adult furniture which requires a standard length stock bolt and has been a staple in my "woods kit" for years.

I just completed an 18.5" Pardner 12 gauge and was ready for a 20 gauge until I took a walk with the Tamer and realized that with it and my Pardner Youth 20, it would be really redundant.

Jeff

The Tamer should anything any other Modified choke 20 gauge would do, just a different configuration. Recoil can be adverse with the short LOP, anyone who has shot mine with the original stock has commented on that fact. With a different stock set it is a very handy gun in the grouse thickets of the U.P. but my son did rib me about hunting birds with a riot gun...

Scott,

What kind of stock did you use?  Choate products seem overpriced to me.

Choate's about the only game in town for after-market H&R/N.E.F. furniture.  The only other manufacturer I know of is A.T.I. with a ridiculously over priced AR-15 style set.

Choate is who makes the stocks for H&R.

Is a Tamer useful? For a couple years after my divorce it was my one and only long gun . It harvested a couple of does with slugs and about 20 squirrels . I did take it bear hunting with slugs did not see any. And it was the in the corner house gun the whole time. All while wearing the hard on the shoulder plastic riot stock. It now is still doing house duty and has a lasor light mounted on it .   When it is what you own it is what you use.
