New Rifle/Round for Savage
« on: March 08, 2013, 05:52:27 AM »
Ran across this in my surfing today: http://www.outdoorlife.com/blogs/gun-shots/2013/01/worlds-fastest-rimfire

Looks interesting, but in looking at the Savage home page I could not find any mention of it :-\

I have a real interest in this one. It looks to me to be a very good walking varmint rifle, as long as the weight is kept under 6 pounds. I am afraid that at first you will not be able to get a rifle and then you will not be able to get ammo. It will more than likely take at least a year before the supplies get plentiful.

It duplicates the .17 Hornet.  It will work in areas where they restrict centerfire guns during certain seasons.  Personally I'll stick with the .17 Hornet, Alaska has restrictions against rimfire guns being used for certain game.  Depends on where one lives as to whether they can us one or not.  The guns will most likely not show up till after production of other higher profit guns are caught up on.  Same with the ammo.  Since most gun makers are over a year behind on orders, this new gun most likely will not show up till things get caught up.  From what I read Savage just modified up their .22 mag bolt gun, to handle the new cartridge.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Actually it is quite a bit slower than the .17 Hornet.  But in areas where they restrict to Rimfire this can be a game changer.
