THAT'S not trolling...  ::)
When I was 18 and did not know enough about politics I registered in NJ as an Independant.
In NJ at the time the independant party was a little left of, well Lennin.  A couple weeks after I registered I started to get flyers in the mail for a communist meeting, for requests to donate to this or that cause.  Trifolds telling me how Capitalism was evil and how communism was the way of the future, and how veganism was healthy.  What I thought was odd was they kept telling me to vote Democrat, rather than for any of their candidates.
I had to write to them and explain that I was not joining their party that I thought independant was what you did before you joined a party and to please remove me.  I went back to the DMV and registered as a Republican.  I needed to send the Independant/ Communist party a change of address form to get them to stop sending me their filth.  I sent a change of addresss as the Democratic head quarters.

The problem with the two party system is that both major parties see that as ONLY two parties, which makes us one party more than China. The average Chinese person, as well as most of the world, can't tell the difference between our two parties. I personally see the two party system as intending AT LEAST two parties. Some here seem critical of my being independent and thus not being allowed to vote in the primaries; when anybody that runs is simply a talking head for their party, it does not matter who wins the primary, except to the opponents. BOTH parties refuse to consider a general election ballot with a "None of the Above" vote, because then they would have to face the fact that neither party represents the people in general. I haven't voted FOR a candidate for over thirty years. I've been forced to vote against the one I felt was worse. Sometimes that worse candidate is one side, sometimes the other.

The fundamental difference between me and those of you like IG is that I KNOW that hard work is not enough by itself--- if it were, my boyhood as a sharecropper's kid would have made me a millionaire. Or maybe y'all don't think chopping cotton, picking cotton, hauling hay and snaking logs is hard work. Hard work by itself will do nothing but kill you. It killed my grandpa, my grandmother, and most of my aunts and uncles, and they could work an average person to death. So tell me, how many of y'all keep going back to the card table when you KNOW the dealer is cheating? That's what you're asking the very poor to do.

Keep calling me a communist if it make you feel better; it just shows anyone who reads this that y'all don't even know what the word means.
If you give up, THEY don't have to win.

What does insulting someone personally have to do with this thread?  You shouldn't have to be told the rules against it. You've been a member long enough to know better.

I know a few people that have gone from nothing to something and beyond due to hard work, they have shown others that they were willing to work hard and someone hired them for it.  When I was in a position to hire people I would go to a fast food restaraunt and sit back before ordering and see who was working, I would offer them a job to work for me.  I would pay them well.  They were working at the fast food places for Minimum wage of $3.35 an hour and I would double it at $7 an hour.  I had a few of them hired away from me as they were good workers and personable people that made my customers happy and were efficient others saw that and wanted the same thing and hired them away for more, I ended up working for one of the people I hired as a chashier who was the VP of a company having worked their way up.
Then you have people that are hard workers but do not want ot work for someone else, that have a dream to make somethig work, and often hold others down in their family to try to fufill their dream of a restaraunt, a farm, or some other family business.   i understand that your family worked hard, but did they keep you there and not allow your tallents to maximized, did they see you as property and that you owed them, rather than they owed you and you owe your kids a better life.  Are you hoping that a government will even the playing field for you?  It will not a government is opressive and will only make you a slave.  Look at history, the easist thing for a government to do is keep you in a class and not allow you above that class.  It is easy for the government to see you as a farmer and keep you a farmer, when you could be the best Doctor ever.  And some how you ar willing to replace a land owner with a government.  The land owner that share crops allows your hard work to be rewarded, a government will not.

Chung my father came to Texas with a pair of khakis on and a pair under his arm hitch hiking when he as 14 years old and built a business that supported his  immediate family as well as siblings. There are a lot of folk Black and White that drag their behinds out of poverty.  You have to do more than hard work you have to take risks and invest in your self. It is sad that farmers don't get the respect and return for their toil but all men were created equal, doesn't mean they stay equal or get to ride others accomplishments to security. This socialism thing has been tried, it never worked, Insanity is trying something over and over and expecting different results.

And, I bet each of you know way more people who worked hard and ended up still poor after 30 years than you know who became wealthy just by working hard. So, I'll give you this: If you work really hard and get really lucky you MIGHT end up being fairly comfortable. Maybe. Oh, and regulating the capitalist moguls is not socialism, it's self defense.

Yt may have said he is republican but his posts indicate he might not be.
Actually, Oldshooter - real old? - what I wrote was that I was registered as a Repub, but that if I had to take a label - what would most accurately describe me? - it would be libertarian. On registration... can't vote in primary of a party, unless you're reg w/said party. I want to vote in the primary.

I do. Do you want to speculate on what I am?

Here's what I see here: If someone doesn't kowtow to the far right-wing, oftentime Christianist view... they're tagged as a libby, or a liberal (or a commie or gay or maybe a Muzzie Lover). That says more about them doing the labeling, than the ones they're labeling.

I used to be a law-n-order, right-wing conservative. A few experiences taught me to start thinking.
It's near 70 outside, and I've finished my honey-do list, i'm gonna fire up the Yamaha and go for a ride.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

Liberals,
I have a quick question for you.
You are a manager of a store and need a new chashier.  You place an add looking for help, they are to apply in person at 9am any day of the week.  The cashier is the first and last person your customers see as they enter and leave the store.
At the end of the week you are looking at a pile of applications.
You have a male and female of each of the following.
Black, white, asian, middle eastern, hispanic, and gay activists.
Who do you hire?  And why did you hire them?

Not registered as to any party but I do consider myself a conservative.
I tend to lean towards the Rep party but have voted other ways at times if they favor my ideas and I think they are better then whoever else is running.

Well so far most of the liberals have not answered except for Kimber 45 showing us that Liberals are sexist. (my guess, he is going to sexually harras her like Clinton)
I was waiting fo on of you liberals to answer that you would hire this or that minority based on some liberal exclusion factor that gives us a dash Amercan.
I will give you the onservitive answer.
I would/ have hired the one that shows early for the interview, fills out the applicationfully and is readable, can make change, is dressed neatly (even if dressed like a freak) and is friendly.  I want my chashier to have a smile on their face, quickly ring people up, and say hello and good bye.  And most imprtantly they can work the hours I need a cashier to work.   I do not care what color, religion, or any other devisive thing liberals come up with to pit one group against another.

Anyone who doesn't want to be called "right winger," etc., should not be one. And it's not the same to refer to someone in an accurate description of their political stance as calling them derogatory names.

So we can call lefties as "Pinko Commie Bed Wetters"  as that too is a discriptive view of their political views.

My Grandpa told me a long time ago:

Choosing a political party is easy.

If you are for the rich people and big business be a Republican

If you are for the poor people and labor be a Democrat

It's been that way all MY life, anyway. In the world today, money is power. The right has pushed capitalism so far to the right that you can't tell it from fascism. In doing so, under the claim for the need for "smaller (meaning 'less') government," they have allowed the few rich to grow so powerful that the rich ARE the rulers.

Here in Ohio, you only have 2 choice's to vote in the primary's. You have to be a registered Rep. or Dem., no 3rd. party allowed. So, having some, but little choice in the matter, I'm a registered Republican. The county I live in, is highly Democratic, as is alot of union people. I really think of myself as an independent voter, and try to choose wisely. gypsyman

Here's an interesting take on elections. Not ours. One of my friends is from China. As you all know, there is only one party. He says that, in the smaller towns, villages, and rural areas, even though there is one party, there are usually several candidates for the offices. That means when the people vote, they vote for the individual they feel is best qualified and will do the best job. Their campaign speeches are about the candidates' ideas on how to make the people's lives better. They are not allowed to talk about their opponent's faults. He says in the larger cities, it's much the same, but more corrupt. I just thought it was interesting that one party rule in some ways has more flexibility than multiple party rule--- almost like there are no parties.
If you give up, THEY don't have to win.
